I have come to the conclusion that one of the final stages of accepting the reality as it is/swallowing the pill, is to accept two absolute and irrefutable truths concerning the nature of male sexuality;

  • a) Falling in love is an act of natural deception, and consequently;
  • b) Marriage is like the act of signing a path to certain, slow death.

However, as simple as these truths are – we also have to accept the fact we are human and life is going to put us in situations where we will be tested. Therefore acknowledging them won't make us immune, as we can still fall into the trap. Fellow RPers who have already walked this path prior to finding RP, or those who are undergoing the experience of ugly reality behind the marital sacrament may not be as lucky as those of us who are now aware. Luckily, they too have the neccesary tools here for running life/RP on hard mode. Those who still have the slightest doubt about this matter, shouldn't go on reading.

Just the mere fact that we are not and cannot be immune to being enamoured, seeks for caution. M. Scott Peck, an American psychiatric thinks that the ''sexual mark of this phenomenon leads to the conclusion that we are talking about a genetically-encrypted instinctual feature for sexual intercourse... Or, a more harsh way to say it, being in love is an act of deception of our genes over our usually rational mind, by which they by fraud lure us into marriage.'' And, eventually, procreation – because that's where the cycle ends. Is there a simplier way to put it? I don't think so.

There have been some philosophers interested in this subject. Mainly, Arthur Schoppenhauer in his infamous work On Women; ''...to marry means to halve one's rights and double one's duties.''. Costs greatly outweigh the benefits and many men find themselves tied up after the late a-ha! moment and accept their existence as futile.

Well, if all this is known to an average man, what makes some men cover their eyes?

Lack of discipline. Discipline cannot produce experience, but it can help us monitor it. It makes all the difference between a strong, self-dependant individual and someone who lets himself be overwhelmed by his feelings and whims. Sometimes the pain and suffering of strong self-control and will can be enormous, but after all, it is what makes us men. I'll finish this with a stoic quote by Epictetus, from his Enchridion; ''Upon every accident, remember to turn toward yourself and inquire what faculty you have for its use. If you encounter a handsome person, you will find continence the faculty needed; if pain, then fortitude; if reviling, then patience. And when thus habituated, the phenomena of existence will not overwhelm you.''

Grammar criticism is welcomed, english is not my first language.
