It's discouraging that the goal hasn't been met yet. If this was the first effective birth control for women, it would've reached 10 million no problem by now.

The effectiveness of a vasectomy that's reversible. I wonder if most men even know about this? I don't see much media coverage. Don't think big pharma likes this product too much.

I donate to Vasalgel monthly. With that said, I think their lack of funding is their own fault. They never tried to get funding from the Gates Foundation (who are all for family planning), never tried to get a kickstarter-style "pre-sale" going on, etc.

A lot of men do not think about it ubtil it's too late. Think about it even some guys here trusted their girlfriends with the responsibility of contraception. And the thought of having a needle inject a polymer into your ballsack for itself not so very appealing than lets say take a pill every day.

Question though, as the body can excrete fluids but not sperm, does this give you the same effects of semen retention? Random thought as they would in return create supermen. I know that If I personally don't ejaculate for 3 days I have a crazy amount of motivation and drive for work, working out, pursuing women, and everything in-between.

This whole thing sounds great. But....

Pharmaceutical companies exist. The likes of Roche, GlaxoSmithKline et al make money from their drugs and treatments. Regardless of the politics, they are there to make money from that industry.

In the UK, a medical company needs to register their product as soon as it's discovered. They then have five years to hold license over that product which includes any and all testing or proving time. Given that companies like this pour a lot of money into this testing, that gives you an idea on how much they make in producing these products.

Vasagel sounds like a major groundbreaking product and a real game changer. Most men of almost any age would be queueing up for this product if fully tested, licensed and deemed safe.

So you have a product potentially worth several boatloads of cash yet none of these powerful companies have bought out Vasagels creators nor decided to come up with their own variation of it given its public knowledge and no patent exists.

That to me is a huge red flag. The fact that no company is picking up on something which has a market value of upto 50% of the population... Yeah there's something fishy. Why would such a major product like this need a fucking kickstarter to get off the ground? He'll, take that to Dragons Den, I bet every Dragon would be in harder than a Chad with a post waller!

Added to that, Vasagel has certain social connotations. Men's rights is a huge issue right now. Putting reproductive control into the hands of men would be a huge political issue.

As another user said, I don't fancy my name being on a list as a supporter of such a hot button issue.

In the future, I see leaked lists of "known woman haters" in the form of lists of people who donated to this kickstarter and a nice fancy house being built by whomever is taking the cash from this kickstarter.

If this product had legs, a major pharmaceutical company would have snapped to it by now. The fact that nobody has is major fishy.

Source: I've worked for pharma companies who I know undertook some very hostile takeovers of labs and producers the second they registered an economically viable product.

$1,388 is a failure, no need to sugar coat it.

I would hazard a guess that donating to something like this goes against the selfish principles of TRP which would be my instinctive response to something like this failing in here.

And in terms of widespread appeal I would initially jump to the conclusion that there are 3 groups of people that could help this along:

Women - Women won't donate because it's for Men, would you donate to create a better version of the pill? no because you don't give a shit. That and birth control is something Women control.

Older Men - I've heard a lot of older guys say that this has "been coming" for decades now etc, maybe there's a bit of excitement fatigue for male birth control. That and older Men already have kids or have had vasectomies by now.

Younger Men - This ones easy, knocking up a chick is a risk, and like all young men we believe that consequences won't happen to us. It's just poor risk management, it's not going to change. I fell into this group and although I donated $25 I donated it with the mindset that I'd never see a return on it and I was just throwing it away.

That and "donations" imply a charity or a cause. And "Male birth control" just sounds silly.

Perhaps a better question to ask would be to ask individuals here, why did you choose not to donate?/why didn't you donate? (answer whichever question you like better)

That and this thing needs to be marketed. Worst case scenario it's banned in the US and people have to get back alley birth control procedures. That's going to create an interesting situation because the immediate comparison is that people will think of back alley abortions. It's hard to decry one and not the other.

Best case scenario it becomes a social justice issue and every media outlet decries it and raises it's awareness. Meanwhile private donations soar.

Bullshit!! There's something they aren't saying. There is to much money that can be made with this product for them to need donations. Tell then to sell stocks, that we of we donate we can make money as well

After reading comments, I see it is male birth control. So I see the problem already. Exposure.

I don't k ow how, but these dudes need to get some exposure. I can't donate to something I'm not aware exists.

And the name is misleading.
