Are video games the cause or an outlet for boys let down by society and an overly feminized education system that tries to make them into girls- no wrestling or body contact, no competition, no playground equipment (seriously, it's happening in places), and a model of learning and participation that 100% favours women?

This is just a personal anecdote, but video games had some benefits for me:

I learned English through online gaming
Made a group of friends thanks to online gaming and gaming events
Gaming got me into programming (I wanted to make my own games), which is now my job and my main source of income
Online gaming helps me stay in touch with friends in my hometown

I owe a lot to video games. As with everything: do it in moderation.

Gaming can be fun and you can make friends through it, but it should be a minor part of your life. I rarely find the time these days and i am more interested in training in the gym and fucking my gf.

-It removes any physical social interactions, especially with women.

-Sitting for hours destroys your posture and will wreck your back.

after hours and hours completing games you have literally nothing to show for it. You could spend that time learning new skills or developing as a person

It is a tragedy for young kids whos parents stick them infront of an ipad or xbox. Kids, especially boys NEED to be properly socialised through rough and tumble play. This cannot be over stated enough. Boys learn to kerb their physical aggression and learn social cues through wrestling around with other kids.

I spent my childhood playing some games but my parents were poor so we only got a ps1 about 2 years after they came out. I spent almost all my time making fires, building tree houses, fighting, bmxing,skateboarding playing sport, fishing etc. i would be so much worse off if i had spent my entire youth infront of a screen.

Porn = Instant gratification --->Masturbation, basically watching another man fuck.

Sex = Delayed gratification --> gotta work for it

Getting Ripped Shredded, HIGH SMV = Delayed Gratification ----> takes a while to become a man of value

Playing games and achieving things in the game = Instant gratification ------> instant results takes a few hours to "achieve things", evolves around building a character that gains resources (XP), unlocks new items etc to become a player of "worth".

They both have a similar dynamic based around excessive dopamine release and it's a form of 3rd Person Cuckoldry.

Second, while I am not into video games (no hate, they just aren't for me - every time I see "Call of Duty - WWII Edition" advertised on TV, I think "My father and uncles LARPed that from 1941-1945") the problem isn't boys getting education so they can be good little Betabuxes and be just smart enough to run the machines, take their Soma, and not ask too many questions.

What IS the problem? The problem is that the scales are so tipped against boys - schools basically tread boys like 'defective girls' - that many of them are saying "Fuck it" and dropping out. Once you decide that you aren't worried about marriage or family anymore, then you no longer need to go to university and therefore don't have to take on a ton of educational debt, then you no longer need to maximize earnings beyond your immediate needs. You also have a lot more recreational time to spend in any way you see fit, which includes, for many young men, videogames. It's a free country, or at least it used to be.

So yeah, the real story is: "Young Men Lose Interest in Serving the Feminine Imperative; Women and TradCons Freak Out"

This is one of those situations where it's a lot easier said than done sadly. Video games nowadays are like an addiction since gaming companies implement features into the game to make them highly addictive, just look to the gambling aspects that have become popular in games called loot boxes that don't seem to be going anywhere soon.

I used to be an avid gamer, happily playing all day if I could. Walking away from gaming wasn't easy, especially when all your flat mates play and you've played for 10+ years. The easiest way to make people realize it's an issue is to make it an issue and stop treating it like it's causing murderers and psychopaths. It's creating lazy, unproductive members of a recluse community.

I think you're on to something - and I think this problem is many layered. One big one I think is loss of meaning, and young men finding that in virtual worlds like video games and online porn. Kids can't fight anymore, and sports are too violent for most parents. Kids don't socialize in person anymore either. So what we have is the rise of the virtual world, and women are already trying to get in and ruin that place for men too (look at gamergate).

Video game addiction is just a scape goat for society's increasing rejection of personal responsibility. Why take action in your life if you can distract yourself with meaningless coins and items? IMO, games aren't inherently addictive. At least not in the way that hard drugs are. It's a lack of self awareness and control that leads to over use of the internet/porn/games etc. This is coming from a former game "addict".

It also depends on your brain type. In my case, my brain is more wired to small short bursts of dopamine. That's why I played so many games. You get a new item or reward every few minutes. When I complete a large task I don't really feel a large dopamine hit. I'm more like "well it's over". In my life I have to write down small tasks and then reward myself for doing them much like a video game. This seems to work for me.

Again, lack of personal responsibility is a feminine trait. See plausible deniability. Boys are becoming more and more feminine. It's no surprise that boys are rejecting the outside world in favour of a source of dopamine that takes much less effort and work. If you have a brain that is predisposed to addiction like mine then I would suggest cutting video games out completely, however, I you can balance them in your life and do not use them to avoid things then go right ahead.

Video games aren't the personal cause. Personally for me they have had a huge part in my growth and development. I have been an avid gamer since the age of 2 and still 1 or 2 games a day.

Games help me stay grounded to reality and happier. Mind you I only play 30 mins to an hour a day now instead of 12+hrs - 24hrs when I was younger. Do I regret the 10000s of hours wasted playing countless games? No, I believe they all helped me, many taught me valuable lessons and I wouldn't relive my life. Just because its a video game become become so closed minded about them.

Video games are art, music, literature, programming, design, economics, math, history, everything.

They are also a very good escape of this world... here's the part where people start saying video games are a bad thing and associating everyone who loves & is passionate about them to just be looking for an escape of our world. That is an ignorant way of thinking, in reality our world needs to be escaped. In order to captivate the mind and keep some creativity this world seems hell bent on completely killing through our education & job system.

DON'T keep your kids away from gaming, they've delivered me countless nostalgic bliss moments that I'll always cherish and never replace with anything.

What's the purpose of life, ask yourself? To be happy, or to focus 100% on what you consider the best way to be successful in life... what is success truly?

Since you think video games are bad are you saying there's some specific right way to live life?

Ask yourself these and many more philosophical questions before you try to make video games taboo.

I find porn & masturbation evil... heck I'll even admit many games like League of Legends can be bad for any dude... don't even get me started if he gets addicted to those type of games.

I have played a variety of different games though and seen just about everything, overall I would say video games are a positive things and can have much more benefit to the human soul & mind than harming it.

Something funny a friend of my mother's said will always stick to me when I was a little kid and my parents had just about too much of me and my siblings no lifing video games.. "lol, would you rather they bet out in the streets with other kids doing drugs, partying, and other bad behavior?"

Instead we shared good anime, video games, comics, manga and other mentally challenging, and fun things.

Definitely stay away from P2W, cash grab, or games based on too much luck & RNG. The other thing to worry about with gaming can be focusing on it too much and forgetting/not wanting to socialize with people or get a girlfriend.

Gaming addiction can be a thing too, and there is infinite other things you could do with your time than play video games. It also should be known that living a sedentary lifestyle and not socializing will really harm you, these are the biggest mistake people make.

I would say technology can also be blamed for this though wouldn't you?

Putting the blame on video games itself seems... very wrong to me, from a guy who knows them in and out, its like blaming the existence of alcohol itself for people being alcoholics.

Zimbardo talks about the role pornography plays in the decline of boys as well. If you can get an infinite variety of sexual stimulation whenever you want as a boy, why bother going to that party and risk rejection? If this happens enough in your formative teenage years, you end up developing a personality that isn't conducive to good social interaction.
