On an individual level, acting altruistically, especially with strangers, is usually a bad deal in the sense that you gain less than you lose. However, on a societal level, "morality" is the foundation upon which co-operative, coherent societies are built.

Amoral individuals will often prosper over moral ones but moral groups survive MUCH more often than amoral ones.

As a small aside, I find religious people are often/usually offended by the notion that humans are animals.

I love the fact we're talking about this! I've been thinking the same for so long.

Do yourself a favor everyone and watch all the nature shows, out in the wild, etc all on Netflix and such.. You'll see how each animal species have they're own mating and reproducing strategy.. Leaving out insects, reptiles, and invertebrates (birds) when you learn about animals (since we are one) and you see how every species only the Alpha male is able to reproduce. What's funny knowing this is that animals live by no law, democracy or religion. It's all about reproducing the best offspring to keep the species alive. Us human (animals) also lived by that strategy for thousands of years, but seems like stuff is getting lost in translation now.

The whole AF/BB has been beaten to death, but here's a new take on it. What if we remove the preconceived notions of alpha/beta and slot them to the 2 roles men have had since anitquity. Warrior and non/warrior.

The young, strong, able bodied and physically dominant were clearly the protectors of the tribe. Once a man had passed a certain age, or those disabled, born invalid, incapable or sensitive were slotted with women to still contribute to the society albeit in a less than optimal role. This is what women want to fish out, if you had been born millions of years ago, are you able to fend for yourself successfully and hunt/attack/defend or were you the type to have been directed with the women to do the other chores? A new wrinkle to the tired beating of the AF/BB drum

I'd disagree with you. to a great extent we have been "deanimalized". We are social organisms, and are conditioned right from our births to respond to social situations, not individual instincts.

You are talking about a scenario where people are using structured language and formalized knowledge, which in itself is something that takes us far from our animal instincts. It is a social situation that presents people with several possibilities which they evaluate and then choose to respond to - either halfway or fully cognizant of the responses and perceptions it would generate. There is a inductive logic at work in our heads, and the kind of premises it works from determines what kind of person we end up being.

We eat, shit, and fuck - in my understanding that's the vestigial animal instincts left in us, the essentials.

Newsflash, humans are animals. When considering all qualities combined, humans are the best animals. However, we are as much slaves to our biology as ants are. Acknowledging this fact has helped me develop a DGAF attitude and it could do the same for you.

Morals are BS. When a lion kills a deer and feeds on it, he doesn't feel guilt. We don't look at that lion and think what a shitty lion he is, if anything we admire it for doing it's thing. Just like a lion, a human eats, shits, and fucks. Why should you expect anything different?

Actually, it's more complex than this.

At the most base level of additional complexity, you ignore fact that we are social animals. We need to work in cohesive groups in order to survive/thrive. Keeping a group cohesive requires certain behavioral norms to balance the interests of individuals such that individual behavior doesn't destroy the cohesiveness of the group and leave all the members of the group far more vulnerable to being preyed upon by both natural predators and/or other more cohesive groups. The need to regulate individual behavior at a relatively complex level to enable large and complex groups to remain cohesive gives rise to both moral and ethical codes. If you're a smart human you behave morally and ethically because you know that you need a cohesive group to survive and thrive. If you're a dumb human you behave like a base animal and end up either imprisoned or exiled and must either go it alone or try and make your way as a member of a small, relatively unorganized, and only loosely cohesive group competing against large, well organized, and substantially more cohesive groups. Good luck with the race to survive/thrive and pass on your genes with that strategy.

At a higher level, remember that we are animals in part only - the physical part and the baser levels of our consciousness. Unlike animals, we have a substantially more complex structure to our consciousness. Animals have awareness, certainly, and that qualifies them as having a base level of consciousness. The more complex social animals also have the ability to perceive group dynamics and balance those dynamics with the desires of the self, which requires yet another level of consciousness exceeding that of simple base awareness.

Humans have a significantly higher level of consciousness which allows us to perceive and explore both the structure of the universe and even that of consciousness itself. It is this level of consciousness that has enabled us to master our environment in ways that animals cannot. And just as we can master our physical environment via the use of this consciousness, so can we master our metaphysical environment. Since we can use our consciousness to explore the structure of consciousness itself, we can expand it into our sub-conscious and rewrite whatever "animal code" we like to suit our conscious will. We do this all the time when we extend our moral/ethical codes to allow for more cohesive social structures which benefit our ability to survive/thrive.

We can do this with sexual strategy too, and perhaps we should. It behooves us to have a "bigger picture" sense of what is the best path to take to achieve our self interest. This "bigger picture" sense of analysis is how we got to RP. Let's not drop that in the idiocy of oversimplifying what underlies how we behave and why, and eschewing our ability to change those behaviors.

And remember that acting like an animal in a human society will get you caged, enslaved, and possibly even killed like an animal. It's just stupid.

I agree but I don't agree, we've something animals don't have and that's why we are the strongest animals otherwise we were in the lower-mid part. and because of that genius thing we got which called brain, we can control ourselves unlike ants or lions. when we will fully and truly figure this part in humans i'll tell you what's the right answer is.

Haha! The guy who used the animal analogy OP is talking about was me. "The wolf on top of the hill will always try to kill the one climbing up to take its spot"

The reason I've used this example is because the OP of that thread was mad and butthurt that some people he knew irl were talking him down when he was trying to improve himself. I told him that's just how it is, it's nature and he shouldn't be giving it that much thought. If you improve yourself and become better you are now one extra person the top males in your circle must compete against for whatever it may be (girls, job, etc).

Now here's something interesting to come out of your observations- You quite accurately assert we are animals. I'm comfortable around my fellow man because I know, he knows and we know our animalistic side. I thusly distrust people who tend to prosletyze.

That said, ever try pitching the idea to women that we are nothing but hairless "great apes"? Try having an in-depth conversation about evolution, particularly as it applies to humans, to a woman.

My experience? They universally fall silent. You're almost sorta "defining the wheel of the hamster run" in their heads. For them, and their little plans and aspirations and values, there is simply nothing to be gained from them seeing themselves in that way- and thus, their essentially loopy 'honesty' starts from a true and critical misconception about themselves, and their own natures as human beings.

No wonder they spin shit that has us run in circles. Anyone else chime in on this?
