I call this "Disney Movie Romance". If you're a 20 something right now you probably grew up with the classic Disney princesses (and their princes of course). Obviously not specific to Disney movies or the 90s, but for me, identifying that many of my generations 'romantic values' come from these kind of Disney movies was very eye opening.

Culture that supports the feminine imperative and trashes masculinity. Hypergamy appears to make women immune from oneitis: they'll begin to notice other men and immediately become aware of their options.

I've had no positive masculine role models when it comes to dealing with other people, men and women alike, in my life. Everything I encountered makes men into supplicating betas, to both women and the state (authority).

Thankfully, I've always been an incredibly intelligent young man with a habit of not really listening to anyone, so I had undercurrents of red pill my whole life. Still a bitter switch.

It's not. Instinctually, you should be as invested as possible in your best option -- women to the best resources/genes, men to the hottest girl you could realistically get.

It's probably just dramatically exaggerated in the modern world because people aren't constantly pursuing other options and forgetting about it.
