If a woman wants to have a career, not be a real mother at home, and her husband is fine with that, then so be it.
But don't complain when that doesn't work out and your marriage fails, simple as that.

"I grew up lucky in what I’d always thought was the status quo: Mom at home, Dad worked, Gram lived with us. Everyday I was sent off to school with a full belly, a tasty packed lunch and rocking a pretty nifty outfit. My mom was, and is, an incredible seamstress and despite our lack of wealth, I was rather well-dressed. Halloween was an event; one which meant weeks of prep, crafting and such with my Mother—no elastic strapped plastic masks from the likes of K-mart were ever purchased in our home.
Dinner was at 4:05 on weekdays, because that was when Dad wanted it, and what did we eat? Well, it was whatever my Dad wanted that day. He was early to rise, and worked very hard to build a thriving business for us, but he would usually come home for lunch. Summers were the absolute best. We would all eat together outside at the picnic table, under the sunshine, the freshly cut grass beneath our feet. I learned how to prune roses, which berries got picked and turned to jam, and how to notice and avoid wasp’s nests. Mostly, I watched my Mom cater to my Dad. He was King of the House. She delighted in pleasing him, and while often gruff to others, he seemed to embrace her with his eyes. They would exchange looks and smiles like no one else existed.
Fast forward, and I’m listening to one of my girlfriends complaining about her boss/husband. I can’t tell which is which anymore, nor does it matter, as she has deemed them both assholes, merely to be tolerated. I wonder privately if they are interchangeable. She is eager to confide to me how she can fool her supervisor through crafty plagiarism, and how her husband has no idea he is being fed Whole Foods carry out. Oh, those stupid men, she laughs. Oh honey, I think to myself, he knows. He might not know which store it came from, but believe me, he can taste the lack of love. Is that all her man is worth to her? Re-heats?
These career gals get up at 5, and are on the train by 7, not arriving back home until 12 hours later. I wonder – aren’t they missing it? Their lives, that is. Where is the quality? Let’s speak candidly, we’ve all heard the cliché “you CAN have it all!” But you can’t.
At first, it’s not a big deal, you’re just putting in a little extra effort to make up for when you were on maternity leave, or maybe trying to show someone above you just how dedicated, indispensable and promote-able you really are. I mean, isn’t that what it’s all for? Credit. Praise. Worth. Is this the new litmus test? How big is your office, M’lady?
No, you cannot have it all—not in success and harmony. Something is paying the price. It’s kinda like the change in the ashtray; those little moments that make up memories, nickels and dimes that you take for granted until you would KILL for a road side diet coke and realized that you’ve left your purse at home.

Of course these women are laughing to each other over how they tricked these "stupid men" and are probably high-fiving each other, can you imagine the outrage if it was a man laughing to his male co worker that he had tricked his dumb wife with a knockoff gift item, or how she fell for some sappy line he took from something else?
