I am currently exclusive with my boyfriend (23m). We have been official for a month but dated for about 2 months prior. I understand FDS doesn’t encourage exclusivity on my part (19f), but it is honestly what I prefer. He has demonstrated consistency, follow-through, thoughtfulness, and has checked off all my boxes so far. He takes me on dates, trips, I never open my wallet around him, and regularly receive thoughtful gifts. He also has been amazing with my family. I’m saying all this to illustrate why this is a hard decision for me.

We had plans to hang out last night. Nothing solid but obviously I expect him to follow through and plan something. He texted me essentially letting me know that he wants to push our plans to the following day because his friend was driving into town and wanted to hang out. I think that’s ridiculous, he didn’t even call me. Never mind the fact that he felt like his friend was a better option? Basically, I’m pissed because he preemptively decided I would be okay with moving our plans without even consulting me first.

I responded to his message letting him know that he needed to pick up his things from my house (an item he bought his friend was in there as well) and that they would be on the porch, I also let him know that he should make other plans for the following day (passively saying I was not interested in hanging out).

He showed up with flowers & an apology, and explained that he didn’t think it would upset me but that he completely gets it and would make it up to me soon. I kept my composure but honestly I’m very thrown off by all of this. I need some insight. I don’t want to stop seeing him as I do have strong feelings, but I feel like this shows a lack of respect for me and a lack of prioritization.

Thank you.
