Which scenario has produced a more positive outcome for you?

i wouldn’t say chatting for months is good... usually i’m comfortable with a week, so i have time to verify that he is who he says he is, but it’s not so long that i sink a bunch of time into chatting with him and having it go badly in person.

met my current boyfriend through OLD and i think we talked about a week before our first date.

Please don't chat for months with someone before meeting. They are wasting your time, just keeping you around for a little hit of dopamine and attention. You're not a pen pal.

If he doesn't ask you a date after a week, move on. However, avoid men who's first interaction with you is to immediately ask you out. Try a phone call or video chat first to vet them and make sure you would even feel safe meeting them in person.

Chatting for months is ridiculous. Any man who goes that long without asking you out, is not interested in a relationship with you. I’d rather do what you did, meet within a couple of days. That has had much better results for me. My husband and I chatted for 4 or 5 days before our first date.
