My wife had one of the best responses in a situation like this. We had been dating for 3yrs in college and broke up a couple of times our senior year. We were out with a group of extended friends (and not offically dating ) and this nosey bitch my wife did not like asked, "So are you guys dating again or what" (it was said in a snide tone), my wife (who was somewhat softspoken) says, "No, we are just fucking". It shut that nosey bitch right up.

Every once in awhile I'll look at my 3 year old girl and say something like, "You're just a little cutie muffin." Her brow will furrow and she'll get all serious and say, "NO I'M NOT". I'll smile because she doesn't know what a cutie muffin really is, so she assumes I'm insulting her. She'll see my smile, stomp her feet, and run to her mommy screaming "IT'S NOT FUNNY". Her mom will comfort her saying: "Aww honey it's ok, Daddy didn't mean anything by it."

But then you doubled-down by drawing your wife back in and CALLING YOUR FIL (WTF!!!!) up to get some more insight into that comment. I honestly and literally LOL'd reading that. Thanks! Not bad for 6:30 am.

So if someone makes that comment to me, I'd take it as a compliment actually. What were we all doing in high school? Having fun, hanging with bros, spending time with a girl(s). Assuming you're otherwise OYS, that's a problem how?!? LIghten up dude.
