Advice for a guy going to Jail?

Stay away from anyone with a sex charge or overly religious. Tell them both to fuck off and take a swing if you need to. No one cares about them and it will help that you don’t associate with them.

Try not to barter too much. Don’t gamble or borrow and don’t lend. If you do get canteen be discreet and only order what you’ll need to get by.

Never talk to anyone about their case especially if they haven’t been to trial yet. Last thing you want is to be a witness. That can follow you when you get out.

This one is the most important: NEVER SNITCH. You could get hurt - bad. If you see something and are asked about it by the jail staff you didn’t see anything. If they take you somewhere separate and tell you that you can return to your cell block once you give a statement just wait it out. Even if you miss meals. You have the right to remain silent - exercise the right whenever in the presence of jail staff. Say yes sir, no sir, etc. to their direct questions but never offer information about yourself or anyone else.

Also keep in mind jails have speakers that they can listen through and all phone calls are recorded. Watch everything you say.

Good luck dude. Just find a good group, play some cards and do some reading and exercise and you’ll be fine.

I did 30 days back in college (Jesus 17 years ago time flies). It was because of my second DUI in California.

I'm a black dude so it was a bit easier, but hung around everyone. Mexicans stayed away for the most part but there was this one that wanted a piece of me in particular...He was like their "gang leader"...lol....I shit you not this went on in COUNTY jail and not prison. We were playing basketball and he stepped to me after I simply fouled him. I DID NOT BITE. Did not take a swing, nothing. Just looked at him. After he told all his minions to "stop hanging around me and Hill" (another black dude)...lol shit is so funny now when I think about it.

There was also this small white kid who was being punked around by all the Mexicans, he was basically their bitch. So don't be like that.

Anyways, good luck. Just dont do anything dumb to ruin your good time served. Also, its not prison, its much easier - - from what everyone who did time in prison was saying.

Study up. There's a lot you have to know, and if you weren't in the streets before, be vary careful, especially who you associate with. DO NOT get involved in any politics, EVER. For any regular guy, just do your time and stay low key. Avoid fights at all costs, but if you can't, don't you dare back down. Luckily with TRP you have some basis on how to act and conduct yourself

I've never been, but I've known people who have and they always said just be real about what you're in for, like don't lie and try to act tougher than you are and don't start shit for no reason. keep yourself busy and use it as an opportunity to improve yourself.

I was in county for two weeks. At the time I had never been to the gym and was a lanky white kid with glasses. I had no problems. I played chess with the Mexicans, played basketball with the blacks, and watched NASCAR with the white trash. I minded my own and did a lot of reading, sleeping, and introspection. I never gave reason for problems and problems never came my way.

Just because you’re going to be in jail, doesn’t mean you can’t work on yourself.

*Analyze all aspects of your life and see where it needs improvement. You can even make columns- fitness, mental health, family, job/career, friendships, money, women, all other behaviors or habits. You get the point. Add more or condense. *Set goals and develop a plan of action. *Read *Bodyweight exercises *Surround yourself with best people you can find- yeah, this one might be tough. *Know you still have your life ahead of you. Stay hopeful. The greatest project we ever encounter is our own life.

Get money onto your commissary account so you can get candy bars and start working out. You can do situps push-ups etc on your bunk if you have to. After a few weeks you'll fall into a routine based around workouts and food, then it'll go quick(er).
