Keep in mind the position and communication of your upper face (eyes and forehead). The same mouth position can have different non-verbal cues depending on what your eyes are doing.

I believe relaxed eyebrows and wide eyes are what make me look 'lost'. Is a constant slight frown and narrowed eyes too much?

Eyes Body Language
Look at yourself in the mirror and try different looks. Determine what they convey to someone who would be looking at you, and proceed accordingly. Don't obsess about it; the best looking celebrities can look like shit if you take their picture from a bad angle if they're making a dumb face.

If you're well groomed and swolled from lifting, you will not be threatening. You will be attractive. If you're a fat greasy haired neckbeard with shitty clothes and that same resting face would be seen as creepy.

The human mind has entire areas dedicated to facial recognition that quickly filter out fake smiles from authentic ones. This is not a place you can fake it. Your best bet is to elevate your mood before social scenes, maybe a double espresso, or preconditioning ppl to your serious mood.
