Cut, cut, cut. Even if you want to keep getting bigger, cut down to 10% and see where you're actually at. I have a feeling it will be at a lower weight than you think.
[–]RedditAdminsSuck_882 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Yep
That was me. I cut until I got under 10%, and thought for me that would be around 165 or so, turns out it was in the 152 range.

Doing this now. 6 ft and 156 lbs and still have some weight to go
[–]GetHimSomeMilk1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
Why? does it look good on you? Im the same height and I did that a few years ago and looked awful.
Now I'm a little over 180 @ 13-14% and I won't go back near 10% till I get closer to 200lbs
I guess I'm playing the long game but I still look good as shit in a T shirt for now and it's still obvious I lift without a shirt
Just curious what your plan is
[–]statface21 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
im playing the long game as well. im planning to get down to a low weight/bf% and then bulk back up.
[–]GetHimSomeMilk1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Ok I just don't want anyone to waste their time. The more I bulk up the more I realize I won't even notice bodyfat soon. I mean the more mass I get the less I even see that shit whatever my percentage is. The muscle takes over but it's way harder to gain it
[–]statface21 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
yea i can definitely see that happening. I'm almost done cutting. i may just chill for the summer and then bulk at the end/the fall.
[–]GetHimSomeMilk2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
15% is the top end for a bulk. Do a mini cut back to 11-12% and enjoy the summer for a bit then get back to the bulk. I assume you want to get up there in size which will take some time so you're basically always on a bulk but do little mini cuts when you hit about 15%. That's how I look at it
There is a tradeoff to this you can get and stay ripped right now but only be a buck 60 or you can keep getting bigger and bigger and then one day cut forreal and have something to look at

I dont want to make a new thread.
I am 6'2 tall ( 1,88 cm ) 177 lbs and around 25% body fat.
I am bulking around 5 months from 158 lbs. Should i start cutting for the 6 pack this summer ?
[–]lolligagger30003 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
You are way too out of the lean zone. Cut.
If you are doubting I recommend r/bulkorcut
[–]TehJimmyy1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
What is a lean zone ?
I will check the subreddit now. Is there any good guide here on cutting ? Appreciate it
[–]FvckYourSafeSpace2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
12 or under I'd call lean, though some might say under 15. It's not a scientific term.
[–]lolligagger30000 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Nothing official, just meant that you are above the 15% bf which is considered "lean"
I don't think that sub has a lot of guides but for men who want to gain and then cut r/gainit is the best I think, avoid places like r/fitness because most people there are fat or women and it's mostly misleading.

Here's a sneak peek of /r/gainit using the top posts of the year!
#1: I feel like being skinny as a guy is similar to being fat as a girl #2: UPDATE: Would you be interested in an app that is only dedicated to the weight gain? #3: Can I drink butter?

Bro 177 @ 25 for your height is skinny fat. Or just fat. If these numbers are accurate you need to get in decent shape first then GAIN MUSCLE. It will take years. Because if you just cut from here you will still be skinny fat. Only telling you because I was in the same situation. Hard to explain you have to experience it. You have nothing to cut down to is what im saying. Do you even lift?

I only guessed the number by looking images of other people. But here is an idea:

Appreciate any help
[–]GetHimSomeMilk0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Yeah you're not at 25%. Closer to 15%
Your back looks good but core needs to be more solid. Are you squatting and deadlifting? See my original comment to OP about long bulk w/ mini cuts.
Alot of advice here is to get lean which is great but to me any time spent not at the top 10%, 5%? Of physiques is a waste. And if you're young in today's pussy ass society it's really not that hard so why not do it?
There are some dudes who can pull off the real lean skinny jeans look but that's probably not you or I.
[–]TehJimmyy1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
I started deadlifting at 90 lbs. Got back pain for 7 weeks till today(very low and on my glutes, might be an SI Joint).Had my form checked by a lot of people.I started stretching cause i think i have imbalances and tight hip flexors.I started glutes exercises to fix my mild APT. I think i may have mild hernia.
Squats give me some side knee tightness(Along with deadlifts) even tho my form is correct.
I deadlifted 90lbs yesterday again(used to do 155lbs) and i have some bruises below my knee from hitting the bar lol. I need some work to do
Next week luckily i will go to a doctor and do some X-ray. Till then i am not touching squats or deads.
Thats why my core looks like shit. 3 month crunches were a waste of time.
[–]GetHimSomeMilk0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I said closer to 15. BF is real finicky and hard to measure.
I would consider seeing a personal trainer for a few sessions and just tell them you need your squats and deads on track. Or do research yourself if you have to. Find variations and drills and stretches or whatever you have to do to get them. GL bro

Appreciate it . You too.

No way you are making it from 25 percent to a six pack in time for summer. Sorry brah. Aim for next summer.
Okay bro.
[–]AwakenedSovereign0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I'll piggyback.
I'm 5'10 at ~165 and probably 18-22% bf.
I've been bulking for a while now with slow but steady progress, solid strength gains, not much mass on my upper body. Legs and glutes blow up easy tho.
I just haven't "seen" myself cut. In like, ever. I don't know what 10% bf me looks like. Probably skinny and at like 140-145. Obviously I need alot more muscle but will cutting once this summer really set me back that far?
I also wonder if going cut/bulk/cut/bulk will provide me with better gains than this long haul recomp I've been trying. I eat 3k+ a day, and have recently cut out cigarettes and limited to 6 drinks per week. I'm in a good place to make solid gains.
[–]GetHimSomeMilk1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes your body sinks into homeostasis when you do the same stuff forever. You don't have to go all the way down to 10 but mini cuts down to around 12 every once in a while do you good.
And 18 is a little too high. 22 is definitely bad. 15 is a good number to cap your bulk at for both appearance and gains. It's very hard to estimate we have a handheld lazer thing where I work and I even question it but it's close enough to work with. I should find out how much it costs. After that skin fold calipers are pretty good but I usually just use a wasit to height ratio chart. Theres a good one on thinkeatlift.com. I don't know exactly where to find it because I just took a screenshot of it and that's what I refer to
[–]AwakenedSovereign0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Thanks dude!
Everyone I ask in the real world, even my amateur body builder buddy at work, is like "just bulk forever". Tried that.
Time for this. Watch me gain 5-10 lbs of muscle my first bulk after this cut. I've been lifting for almost 3 yrs now. First 1.5 years are a wash because of bad habits and alcohol. This last 1.5 years tho I've been doing things right and still only gained <10lbs.
Bitches gonna see my shred this summer. Test gonna go up. And then when I bulk, fingers crossed I actually make serious gains. It's that or roids for me at this point.
[–]GetHimSomeMilk1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah gaining is the hard part for sure. I've made several other points about this permabulk with mini cuts in this thread too.
I just started a little cut too. No more boozin, doing a 30 day cleanse, upped the cardio, and when the sun comes out forreal im gonna be out there doin hill sprints. Bring out a little shred for the summer but then right back to the bulk and the muscles will be ready to eat.
[–]asktrpd0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm same boat except I'm 12 %. I'm planning a cut around mid April- start of may for summer. Then after summer resume a lean bulk
[–]ProfoundSavage1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I'd say bulk for another year. Then cut down in April of 2018. I know. You want to be aesthetic for this summer but it'll pay off in the long run.
