Day game is just a matter of dealing with more rational people. Those people are usually better, or i think so anyway.

Go looking wherever the type of girl you want would hang out.

Generally, lay off the staff. Theyll be nice because they have to be and youll get a false sense of progress.

If youre trying to pick up girls where they work, what the fuck were you doing there to find them? :P

If theres one PARTICULAR girl you wanna try for, then do it. Whatever man. If it works that great. If it doesnt, its just one girl.

I used to be pretty good in direct day game some time ago, so here are some of my personal experiences:

If you make a direct approach, you're done with attraction. You have all the attraction you'll ever need. Focus on comfort. I always loved direct, because the chicks immediately get excited as fuck. You can literally feel their gina tingles.
Girls are usually shocked to be approached. None of the girls I ever approached had been approached by anybody at all ever before. (No they were not all ugly you asshole :D)
First you need to stop them and get their attention. Use your body to do that. Grab their arm or something. If you just talk to them, they'll ignore you.
Smile. Very important. They often feel threatened if you don't.
It doesn't really matter what you say, you just have to keep the conversation going until you feel she's ready to give you her number.
Watch your body language, be laid back, don't face her directly with your body.
Other then that: Just have fun and don't worry. If you don't feel weird about yourself, nobody else will either.

edit: This is all direct. You might want to start with indirect, since it's a lot easier to start with. I wouldn't recommend direct unless you're already confident as fuck.

Go to an area you are willing to lose for a little while because you need the growing pains of awkward approaches and weird silences and girls not being into you.

Once you feel confident enough you can easily talk to barista's and waitresses and if the conversation goes well give them YOUR number because it's not their ass on the line and it'll prove she's into you if she texts/calls you.

For indirect day game, see Roosh V's Day Bang. His basic principle is that girls during the day are like cats--you want to approach them indirectly and get them comfortable talking to a strange man, then obliquely drop hints at interesting aspects of yourself to get them interested.

A key principle is don't give up/walk away until she nexts you; pretend your feet are encased in concrete and just keep rambling/talking. As long as she maintains eye contact and continues the conversation without leaving, your approach is still on so you keep going until she asks you a personal question and you get the number close.

The basic system is: Open-->Elderly Chat/Ramble/Bait-->She asks personal question-->GALNUC (personal level of conversation and number close)

Open: Open her based on her prop. E.g. "Excuse me, is that a good phone/laptop/book/bag?"

Elderly Chat: Keep talking about the prop for at least 2 minutes. Pretend you are shopping for one for yourself or as a gift; ask her questions about its features and ramble on about it in detail. This is to get her feeling comfortable in talking to you. As you continue to ramble on you drop various forms of "bait" (oblique references to life experience) to try to get her interested to ask questions. E.g. "When I was in South America, everyone had X kind of phone because . . ." "When I was doing X sport/activity/hobby the other day. . ."

Once she asks you a personal question (aim for c. 5 minutes), you have gotten her interested (don't ask her personal questions until she demonstrates this degree of interest in you). After this, once you reach a high point in the convo, perform Galnuc:

"Are you half German?" (ethnicity/background)

"By the way, how old are you?" (Age)

"By the way, where do you live?

"By the way, what's your name?"

"So where do you usually hang out?"

"Well you seem cool do you wanna grab a drink sometime?"--then take out your phone to put in her number.

Obviously these are spaced out with natural segues in between them. At this point the conversation is clearly personal in nature and she will know you're interested. It doesn't really matter if you screw up the order of Galnuc or miss some of the steps, as long as you remember to get her number at the end.

Also, if you meet in a location friendly to lingering, like a bookstore or coffee shop, you need to separate after getting her number to avoid awkwardness. So, unless you got her number right before she was about to leave, you need to leave yourself.

Unless your game is airtight, don't aim for the waitress or barista. It's their job to be nice to you. They're there for a paycheck, not to meet people, respect that.

Generally that's one of the biggest challenges with day game. At a night club, everyone is there to meet people and get fucked up and get laid. Girls in bookstores? Probably there to buy a book. At coffee shops? There to buy coffee. You're going to fail a lot initially. You'll get better with time, but you'll still fail a lot. Just accept that that's a part of day game and you'll be fine.
