I have a comfortable life: good software engineering job, above-average programming/public speaking skills, nice flat in a major city, good finances, and lifting regularly.
However - apart from the gym - I am not improving myself in any way. Two years ago, I used to work on personal programming projects and learn new technologies. I used to be excited about travelling abroad to speak at a conference about my work. I even used to feel happy when playing games with my real life friends.
Now I work 9-5, and when I get home I just want to turn my brain off. I don't feel any motivation in doing something productive. I just want to watch videos/movies, mindlessly browse reddit, masturbate, eat, and sleep.
I find being productive outside of work pointless. I don't want to become rich or powerful - I don't give a shit. The only motivation I have to produce something is that it might increase my status and help me get laid - which is not enough to get me going.
The only things that make me happy are the gym and my FWB (only one, currently in scarcity). Everything else seems like a chore. If I were to injure myself or stop seeing her I would probably be miserable for a while.
I have no mission. I have no goal. I can't find one, as everything seems pointless. Why would I want to be rich/powerful? Why would I want to leave a mark on society? It doesn't matter in the end. Therefore I turn to instant gratification.
I want to have a goal and I want to have motivation to do cool stuff in my spare time. I want to meet people, have new hobbies, and explore. But I just can't seem to find the motivation to start.
Has anybody been in the same situation? How did you get out of it?
