Then she could have come back with a question, "The point of what?"

Or she could have come back with an IOI, "I know."

Either way you can close her.

You need a comeback, instead you just said the equivalent of "OK".

You could have said "I don't like coffee either but sex sounded a little too forward". This will get a response either way, good or bad, and leave you open for the next thing where you can actually ask her out. If she says something like " that's gross" you say "I know, that's why I said coffee". If she says " lol" she is giving you another chance to impress her. If she is impressed she will say something like "sex isn't so bad" or "what about dinner instead". Realize any guy on the street can say what you said, but you need to be clever to get a girls attention via text.

There was no build up or anything. It just doesn't seem like a natural flow of conversation man. But then again if she was really into you she's get that coffee isn't the point. I'd next.

It sounds like she was trying to get you to ask her to more than just coffee--like she was trying to get you to ask her to dinner.
