Summary: I'm 28m, 4yrs on the pill now. Did I maintain proper frame while giving a toned down (instead of the true) response to a confronting woman?

Situation: A mutual friend of my buddy and I was getting married recently, and as my buddy and his wife were going, it came to my attention an acquaintanced (and quite hot, but very high maintenance / tease) best friend of the wife wanted to go with me as my +1. My buddy suggested I ‘might have a chance’, but I simply responded No.

A few days later the 4 of us attended a family reunion/party. The friend first played the sad/flirty girl routine, then with no luck confronted me quite angrily demanding why I wouldn’t let her go with me. Because this was a highly inappropriate setting to be bringing this topic up, I responded with the half-truth that ‘I had been looking forward to going stag and didn’t want to just bring a friend’, and told her I was not willing to discuss it further.

Question: Did I maintain proper frame for the response? My intent was to maturely de-escalate while not burning bridges or putting my (beta-esqe) buddy in a tough spot.

However, I was tempted to give an lecture on how Hot Girl Syndrome is pure bullshit as what she is clearly asking is for me to be her lap-dog while she gets to enjoy a night out with her ‘bestie’ and go home with the Chad she finds at the reception. And that if I wanted a woman to accompany me, I would have damn well asked first; my reasoning for whatever I choose being absolutely none of her or anyone’s fucking business.
