I posted this originally in the r/disability section and didn't get anything in response. Maybe a few of my redpillers can help a younger brother out.
So I make money online, I made roughly $25k so far this year. SSI/SSDI/Medicaid know that I'm self-employed, I've told them that I made $16k profit last year and they were fine with it.
My SSI payments are like $50 a month now due to back payments I owed since I couldn't get anyone on their freaking phone lines to report my Self-employed earnings to.
Right now and what I've been doing is having all my money paid to me via PayPal, this PayPal account sits at around $2k- $3k a month. I use the PayPal balance purely for business expenses. It's a business PayPal account.
I tend to send myself $250 - $400 a month to my bank account (that the SSA checks the records on) from PayPal for covering medical expenses/food/household stuff. The rest of my expenses are covered by my $630 a month SSDI. The only money that touches that bank account is money sent by me from my PayPal.
Is it bad what I'm doing? I'm making $2k - $3k a month, 80% of it is spent on business expenses. I keep every expense well-documented thanks to PayPal and they are real business expenses. I know SSI/SSDI look at net-income and not gross-income when determining SGA.
The reason why I'm on SSDI/SSI is due to my blindness. I even went blind last week for 2 days. It's been an ongoing thing for 2 years now.
I've tried contacting lawyers, CPA's, anybody who is knowledgeable in this area and nobody can give me a clear answer or point me to someone who has a clear answer. I don't want to end up in trouble legally but I'm really stressed out about this. These lawyers know about SGA but they don't have a clear clue on how self-employment + SGA work.
Appreciate the help!
