Its undeniable that even though the "preference"^TM and obsession for women to be with a man who is tall as the clouds maybe biological to an extent, there is very much socially conditioning to bring it out to toxic levels...

When women can't justify their bigotry that they label as "preference" they seem to justify things with even more bigotry and name calling.

The irony in women dating a big man for protection is that they are more likely to be attacked by these very men than by strangers. do you agree with this statement? • r/short

The latter.

Good physique is always a plus, never a minus.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Ok. Good to hear.

[–]Pitchfork51 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Just why having a nice car is compensating. It's bullshit. Just nonsense people say.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

yup

[–]raisins3142 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I think both are true. It is a plus....but the average height at my meathead gym is significantly less than the height of the general population. I can definitely see why a shorter guy would be more motivated to improve. I don't think "compensating" is a kind word for it. It's just an incentives thing. Also, shorter guys can get proportionally big more quickly and have better leverages. I think they see quicker results on average.

[–]Senior EndorsedMattyAnon0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I can definitely see why a shorter guy would be more motivated to improve. I don't think "compensating" is a kind word for it.

Well, it sort of is compensating, but that's no bad thing.

We all have strengths and weaknesses. We work on what we can.

[–]raisins3142 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, that's why I framed it as responding to natural incentives. "Compensating" is too harsh because it is something we all do in some ways. But in this context it seems more "bad".

[–]LordThunderbolt2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

A short guy who lifts is way more respectable than a short guy who doesn't lift. So what if you're compensating? It's YOUR life dude. Anything you can do to make it better, do it.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I don't know if it is better though.

[–]LordThunderbolt0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Do you even lift? Do you like looking at yourself in the mirror and seeing your swole?

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I just started. Its discouraging. And reading all these posts about short men sometimes tell me to just stop trying and lie down and rot.

[–]LordThunderbolt1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, before you lie down, lift.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

ok

[–]untrp1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (41 children) | Copy Link

Having a good physique means you care about your body and strength, which ties into your own ideals of self-acceptance, masculinity, and discipline.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That would relate to my ideals, but what about women?

[–]untrp2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (39 children) | Copy Link

What about women? You lift for you, not women. Women just so happen to be attracted to that (both in that you are self-motivated and constantly improving, and the fact that you have muscle).

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

My point is whether they will shit on me for having muscle while being short and whether it will backfire. I don't know if muscle helps on a short man.

[–]Nex541 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

There's something you don't seem to get here... they subconsciously grow attracted to you if you display strength, domination, power, etc.

Tall guy = strength. Muscles = strength. short guy = weakness.

Short guy with muscles = weakness and strength. U do the math...

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah. I should go for lean though. Not just biceps.

Oh and chest too.

[–]Nex540 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Just get big...

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah, but it doesn't seem like "SWOLE" is the way to go.

[–]Nex540 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

U are never getting swole... but u can get big. Google whalberg... this is what u want:

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I know. Yes that was what I was referring to.

[–]Nex541 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Ok, then u aim for that. Or don't even start.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I started 4 weeks ago, bud.

[–]Nex541 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

So? Aim for that... stop responding to every single comment, this isn't a support group...

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm not.

[–]untrp0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

Lifting is a pillar concept in TRP. It's a pillar concept for every man. I respect a guy a lot more if I can tell he lifts than someone who doesn't. Doesn't matter if he's short or not. Short guys have a benefit because most short guys tend to put on muscle a lot quicker than taller guys. Lifting is nothing but beneficial. There's a reason when you look back in history, sculptures created by the Greeks of men feature men with clear muscle. Muscle is masculine.

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (26 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, but IDK if it is good masculinity in the dating world for short men.

[–]untrp0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

You sound like someone who wants the easy way out. If you want to sit in your parent's basement and get fat and masturbate all day, you can do that.

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (14 children) | Copy Link

But when you're 5'5", its almost always going to be an instant rejection. You can't even get your foot in the door. You don't understand. You're probably 6'2".

[–]untrp1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Get your ass to the gym, dude. Height doesn't matter as much as you think it does.

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (12 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I'm going every day. That's not the point. But I feel like I'm gonna be disappointed.

Height DOES matter. Its the number one factor for women.

Also, IDK what I'm doing wrong but I don't see any gains.

[–]untrp1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Height is not the number one factor. There are tons of short dudes that get great results. Coincidentally, all of them lift.

How long have you been lifting? How many days a week do you hit the gym? How many days do you hit a body part? How long are your workouts? Do you exhaust your muscle? Do you track your calories? Do you eat at a surplus? Do you get enough protein?

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

2 weeks ago I started. I go everyday doing different exercises alternating body parts. Do like 10 reps for 3 sets.

I think I'm not trying hard enough nor am I eating enough protein. How much should I eat?

The problem is that my form is shaky at times. My left and right hands are uneven.

[–]untrp1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Lifting does not show results overnight. It's an ongoing process. You'll start to feel stronger a lot faster than you see results. And you probably won't start noticing results until a month in. In three or four months, you'll see noticeable differences. As long as you're adding weight to the bar in a moderate amount, or adding more sets at the same weight, and exercising considerable stress to your muscle, you are achieving results.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No, but I'm not available to go to the next weight level though. That was my point.

[–]untrp1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You don't need to add weight every session.

Example for how to progress: If you're doing a bench press and can only lift 35lbs per side with the bar and you can make it a full 3 sets of 10 reps, add another set to make it 4 sets of 10 reps. That's called progressive overload. It's a key factor in getting results.

Take a look over at the FAQ in the /r/fitness and /r/gainit communities.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Oh I see what you're saying. That is happening to me. Some exercises where I couldn't even do 10 reps last week ago, I can do 10 with ease. I should do more sets of them and then move up the weight soon.

[–]untrp1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Generally, what I do before I increase weight in an exercise is add an extra set, and then once I complete that 4x12 (I tend to do 12 reps of most exercises), I drop it down to a set of 3x12 and increase the weight. Then work my way up, and back down again. Like I said, muscle building is a process, but there are resources that you can utilize throughout your journey, which is why I linked two.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Sweet. I'll keep that idea in mind!

[–]untrp1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Stay motivated. Stay persistent. You'll get results.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah dude! Sounds sweet.

I hope it helps with my self esteem and dating.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

One more thing. I'm a good 30 lbs overweight too with fat. How fast should I try losing it? I don't want to lose it too fast otherwise I risk having excess skin.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Height is not the number one factor. There are tons of short dudes that get great results. Coincidentally, all of them lift.

Its really hard to believe this. It seems like height is the only thing women care about the most.

[–]edwardhwhite0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Works for me

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (8 children) | Copy Link

How short are you though?

[–]edwardhwhite0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

5'7"

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (6 children) | Copy Link

Ah, two inches taller than me. I could probably be 5'6" if I fix my fucking posture, haha.

[–]edwardhwhite1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I worked hard on posture. Also I wear boots.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Do you have any tips on the best exercises for a good posture?

[–]edwardhwhite1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I have a rubber band on my wrist. If I sense I am slouching, I snap it.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No but will losing weight itself help? I have a lot of belly fat?

[–]edwardhwhite2 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Always

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah I need every inch I can get.

[–]MusicSports1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

5'4 dude here who lifts 5 days a week and runs 7 days a week. Been going for years. I'm stronger than ever. I feel great looking at my short swole ass in the mirror. My shirt comes off without hesitating at the beach and pool. I feel good. Go lift if you want that.

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (23 children) | Copy Link

And does that even help with the ladies though?

[–]MusicSports3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

It helps me feel good enough about my body to get through the day.

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (21 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, so no. :(

[–]MusicSports2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

I didn't say that. Girls that are into me touch all over me the same way girls that are into fat guys touch all over them. The point of it is to do what you want. Stop caring about girls so much and make yourself happy

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (13 children) | Copy Link

I won't be happy till I get into a relationship. I've never been in one.

[–]MusicSports5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

You've definitely not read the sidebar... look man girls don't want to make you happy. They want to date a happy person. If your source of happiness comes from being in something as fragile as a relationship, you will be in deep shit when it eventuallly falls apart from your dependence on it.

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (10 children) | Copy Link

They won't make me happy through their own words and actions, but I will be just from being in a relationship.

I know it could probably fall apart, but I wouldn't feel as shitty as I am now with 0 experience.

[–]MusicSports0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Of course they'll be making you happy with their words and actions. If a girl said "YES ill date you and be in a relationship with you! My only conditions are we never hang out, we never talk, you're not allowed to tell anyome we are dating, and we never have sex. Also ill be fucking guys on the side. But we are 100% in a relationship!" Would be happy with that?

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (8 children) | Copy Link

Yeah I know that. That's not what i'd be happy with. I meant an actual relationship.

[–]MusicSports1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What do you define as an actual relationship

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Listen. I understand that those utopia fantasy land relationships don't exist, but there are those who have damn good relationships.

[–]MusicSports1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No one said good relationships don't exist. What I'm trying to get you to understand is that good relationships come from 2 happy people meeting each other, getting to know how happy each of them are, and then being happy together. 2 sad people who get into a relationship is a disaster because both will be pissed at the other for not making them happy. One happy person and one sad person is a disaster because the happy one will either move on or be torn down into sadness by the sad person. A relationship is an addition to a happy life. Anything else is a trainwreck waiting to happen.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

True. I should try to better myself first.

[–]MusicSports1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

There you go

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Also regarding to physique I have like 30 pounds of fat to lose. How fast should I lose it without having sagging skin?

[–]MusicSports1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No idea. I'm in the process of losing a lot of weight too.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Ah, ok.

[–]Kwantuum0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You won't be happy until you get out of a relationship and realize that wasn't the problem in the first place.

[–]TheTittyBurglar0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

you'll literally be a virgin for your entire life (unless you pay$) with that attitude.

Lift --> You look better --> you are muscular --> you are more confident about YOURSELF --> women love confidence = Profit. Is it that hard to understand? read the sidebar and stop hamstering your life away it's sad get out there and take what you want

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (4 children) | Copy Link

Bruh confidence seems like a meme though. I guess it can make things stretch though.

[–]TheTittyBurglar0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It's not. Can't love others legitimately unless you love YOURSELF first

[–][deleted] 9 years ago* [recovered] (2 children) | Copy Link

Yeah true. I guess optimizing who you could be is needed.

[–]TheTittyBurglar1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Glad you see that. So spend less time online on reddit and work on improving yourself dog get in the gym

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah gym and other skills. The first girl I approach will be a fearful and tough experience.

[–]Nex540 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Of course it's compensating, don't kidd yourself. It doesn't mean it's wrong though, in spite of what jealous guys or horny bithces may say

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Ah ok haha.

[–]boredgod 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm 5'6". From lifting and other forms of personal improvement, like interpersonal game/charm, style, and personal interests, I'm the most popular guy I know with women. I regularly get attention from women who're taller than me and who also have boyfriends who are much taller than me - due to my looks, personality, and frame. I also have guys a full foot taller than me at work shrink up and move out of the way when we pass each other in the hallway and I take up too much space. Even guys who are more fit than me do this, so frame and a feeling of superiority, along with good charisma, is extremely powerful. I am by no means very fit: 5'6" and 160lbs, but I have intermediate levels of muscle and I regularly have women blurt out "you're strong" or "good thing we have somebody with muscles around".

Ever seen the movie Field of Dreams?

"If you build it, they will come."

If anyone challenges your lifting, tell them you work out because it's the only thing that will make your dick look smaller. Then give a big grin.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Bwahaha about the dick one. I should use that.

[–]DSetupDTitleDMenu0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Maybe if they're like RIDICULOUSLY roided up, but if they've got a nice set of muscles and a good face, they'll be a couple notches above any old Joe easily. They've gotta work harder than their tall brethren, but that's not to say they won't cop a feel of that cute barista's arse.

Guy at my work isn't any taller than 5'7" and has a receding hairline, but he looks like a short, ginger Sean O'Pry and has a great set of muscles on him. Two of the girls at my work admitted they slept with him. Another guy at my main gig is 5'5", in his forties, has a bowl cut and isn't rich at all, but he keeps himself in top shape, has a natural sense of wit and charm about him and has a hot-as-fuck 22-year-old girlfriend who lives with him. He said his ex used to smell his junk every day to make sure he wasn't sleeping around.

[–]MakeDatingGrateAgain1 point 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You don't wanna be crazy roided up I heard.

Two of the girls at my work admitted they slept with him.

Lol.
