Long story short, gf of 12 months

went through my phone

She basically broke down and cried that I was dishonest

Shes is giving me noticeable more attitude

I did apologize

She violated your trust by going through your phone. Blamed the problem on you. You went the damage control route and apologized, even though she actively violated your trust. THEN she started acting more bitchy.

By snooping through your phone, she was inevitably going to find something about your past to attack you on. An invasion of privacy like that is NOT ok. That is a demotion. A breakup. Apologizing after she did that amounts to telling her she can disrespect your boundaries and you won’t do shit about it. You dropped in value in her eyes and now she’s treating you like a lesser man.

She knows she was wrong and deserves to be punished, but the fact that you won’t lay down the law has convinced her you’re a little pushover. You don’t have to tell her everything about your past. She doesn’t have to tell you everything about hers. Sorry to tell you but the relationship is dead in the water. She’s not LTR material.

I would confront her and tell her that her invading your privacy and breaking your trust was the real offense, and far worse than you keeping things about your past to yourself. If she balks, ask her if you can see her phone and go through all of her messages and emails and web history right then on the spot. She won’t want you to see her skeletons. She knows she was wrong. I would leave her either way, but have a little fun with it like that if you please.

And for the record, guys, I follow TRUST BUT VERIFY. I will look through a phone in a heartbeat, but I will never tell them what I found. I will just keep it to myself and use it for my decision making in the future.
