It's contextual. Depends entirely on the girl and previous conversation.

If SHE'S opening YOU with "Hey," then "You look like trouble" is as good as anything. (No emoticons, though. That's for girls and married guys.)

Or just "hey" back.

If YOU open her, and all you get is "Hey," that's different.

Over the past two years, I've used tinder and bumble a lot. I've developed pretty tight tinder game since last September, when I discovered TRP. In my experience, a girl messaging "hey" means one thing. They want you to lead the conversation.

Bumble was what led me to this conclusion, because the girl has to message first. I purposely made my bios interesting to spark conversation, and at one point made it simply "tell me a joke". While some girls would get the hint and start a conversation based on my bio, most would simply just say hi. I concluded that these girls, for whatever reason, didn't want to take the lead. They wanted me to. So naturally, I did. I would ask them if they wanted to hear a joke, or simply tell them one. I'd ask questions, as if she hadn't said anything at all. Because really, she hadn't. She'd simply given me permission to lead her.

TL;DR: a girl saying "hey" means "you take the lead". Lead her, motherfucker.

"Hey sup" works well on tinder. Either I get unmatched right away or get a "sup" back. Then you gotta lead. Wasted too many bio-based niceguy initial messages on okc to waste my time on that shit again.
