I could give you a couple of very specific pointers. You could mull them over, close out of your browser, and think for another minute... then forget what I said, or apply some of it. But, I don't think that's what you need. I think you're thinking of your position incorrectly.
You're thinking far too convoluted and far too ahead for your situation.
Start small. You want to make something of yourself, yeah? Well, start small. You've got to put one foot in front of the other if you want to make it anywhere without tripping and busting your face.
As for the entrepreneurs, the acid trips, and raves, I would forget it for right now. It's so far off from what you truly want. Which brings me to an interesting point that I am happy to be able to share with you today. In life, we have short term gratifiers, and long term gratifies. Of course, most of the world appreciates short term gratifies. For them, all you have to do is this tiny bit of X, and you get Y... simple.
So in our world, we see fat asses, losers addicted to porn, video games, drugs, alcohol, and pretty much every guilty pleasure in between. So what is it about these things? Well, you do only this tiny bit of X, and immediately get Y, it's very satisfying and the results are instant.
Then are the long term gratifies. Usually, we will have to set goals to obtain these. The payouts are much larger, but how much of X we have to do to get Y, is also much more. The time we must wait for our investment to pay out, is also usually much longer.
So, you have two choices... in order to get these long term gratifiers, these things that will most likely be worth the most, you must hold out. Or, you can take the easy route, and live a life of perpetuating short term gratifiers. Most of the world does the latter. But, for those who want to reach for greatness, and those who want to pull themselves from the depths of hell, you have to go big. And in order to, you'll need self discipline.
Self discipline is used when what you are doing right now, doesn't necessarily fit in with what you want right now. You may want instant gratification, but... you hold out because your long term goals are more important to you than, and hold more weight than any short term gratification could provide you. It's called sacrifice.
If you follow this mindset, you will see change. Your change may not come in 6 months, but you can guarantee your change. It's small steps, one foot in front of the other, that will ensure you make it to your destination.
Develop this mindset and apply it, and your whole life will change.

Man you gotta get all your shit fixed.
Do you have any unique skills?
Could you driver for Uber or something?
Top priorities should be saving money, getting a clean record, staying healthy and fit, looking for a new job, and learning some new skills.
[–]Cozzafrenz points points points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
No. I have no useful skills and my car is too much of a piece of shit to drive uber. The closest thing to a skill I have is a year experience in plastic molding. I'm pretty much the epitome of a fuck up, I can't blame drugs because my brother does twice the amount of drugs i've done and hes younger than me and has a really good sales job and his life is perfectly fine. Its all my fault from being a dumbass and making dumbass decisions.
I'm skinny but completely unhealthy. Just ordered rippletoes book tonight and went out and bought a bunch of high protein foods and rice and broccoli because i'm sick of being unhealthy as shit. I dont even know where to start with weightlifting but I want to get jacked. My life is a total fucking mess.

uh....ok.
I run my own business online. Last year we grossed about $450k, I took home about 150k of that. This year we're on trend for 500-650k. I work 4 days a week, set my own hours, and employ a team of three people full time. I do what you want to do.
Here is my honest to goodness, best advice. Advice I WISH someone would have given me.
Nail down whatever job you can right now. Anything. Your goal: get enough to cover a gym membership and a library card.
Fucking LIFT. Get a membership at the YMCA - they provide assistance to lower income folks. Anywhere, 8$/month big box gym, anything. Lift heavy things. Get an app like Stronglifts 5X5 and just do that.
Clean up your diet. Doesn't have to be fancy, just cut back as much as you can on sugar. Then try to eat more veggies.
Stop doing fucking drugs. That shit is fucking stupid and you don't have money to waste, right?
All these things feed into one another - if you go to the gym, you'll FEEL healthier. If you clean up your diet, you'll FEEL like a healthy person. If you FEEL like a healthy person, it'll be a lot easier to drop the drugs.
Everything you will do in your entire life is based in your mindset. Your mindset is nothing but your beliefs about yourself and the world.
How do you change your beliefs about yourself and your world? Surround yourself with amazing people who will push you to be better.
Don't know those people, or have access to them? No worries - I didn't either. Luckily enough, those people wrote down all their best thoughts on pieces of paper and then stuck those pieces of paper in a giant warehouse that will let you borrow them for FREE.
At first, grab anything that looks interesting that you will FINISH. You MUST. FINISH. Your first book. This will set the tone for everything you do going forward - do not puss out. Do not get halfway. Pick the shortest book you can find if you have to, but FINISH.
Work your way through these folks:
....or anything that strikes your fancy.
Are some of these books and people "cheesey"? Yes. Yes, they are. But these are your new friends. Think like them. Act like them. Fake it. Pretend. Get in the habit of thinking about yourself and your life differently.
"Leaders are Readers." - Jim Rohn. Every single successful person you have ever met reads. Fucking read.
You have now:
You will probably already be making more money, by the way. Without trying. Why? Because smart, attractive people see more opportunities and capitalize on them. but even if you're not, that's totally cool.
Start meditating. Your anxiety and insomnia will likely have gone away, but meditation builds the ability to FOCUS.
FOCUS IS A SUPERPOWER. This is the age of distraction. It's nearly impossible to shut out the day to day noise, the garbage, that takes you away from working on your business.
If you can focus - truly focus - you will be in the top 10% of the human population in terms of efffectiveness, ability to learn, impact. It will boost your chances of success ten fold.
Grab an app. I use Headspace, there are a bunch of others. No phone? Grab a book or a cd from that motherfucking library. Do it.
Start with 5 minutes a day, every day, for two weeks. Then up it to 10, then 15, and on. Get up to 20 minutes a day.
Your life will be completely different by this point. You'll be a better person, a smarter person - you will see opportunities EVERYWHERE. I have so many goddamn ideas for how to make money at this point, my biggest problem is staying focused on the few I'm actually pursuing. You will be the same.
Now, and only now, do you actually think about starting a business. Really. Why? Because If you don't have that other shit in place, you will explode. You will be miserable. You will hate it. And you will fail.
Doesn't mean you need to be perfect - I'm far from perfect, and life is a struggle. But get yourself right, get your foundation in place, first.
There are a million ways to make money, but my favorite one is the one I did, so I'll lay that out real quick.
HOW TO MAKE MONEY (RELATIVELY) EASILY:
I got started in web design, but don't do that because there's too much competition. Think online advertising, SEO, systems automation, who knows - it'll be something different by the time you get to this point. "I'll help your business on FaceSpace" or whatever the fuck it is.
Go on YouTube. Search for the skill. Watch everything, learn, take notes.
Get books. Online courses. Fucking devour everything you can find. Get Pretty Good at it (not world class, since you can't get there by watching videos. Just get better than anyone you know.)
Pick a niche, an industry, that a.) makes decent money, and b.) is relatively common near you.
Google for all those places within a 100 mile radius of you, make a spreadsheet of their contact info.
Start emailing them, calling them, sending them letter. Be persistent. Follow up like a motherfucker. Give them Your Pitch.
Here's the pitch: "Hey, I help INDUSTRY X get more customers on FACESPACE. I'm looking to build my portfolio and get some testimonials. Let me work for you for free for one month. If it goes well, and you want to keep working together, we can talk about that then. If you'd rather not, but you liked working with me, I'll just ask for a quick testimonial for my website. Is that cool?"
Most will say no. Some will say yes.
For those that say yes, BREAK your fucking BACK. Do the world's best job. Over-deliver. You want them thinking "holy shit - this guy is doing this much for FREE? Imagine what his goddamn PAID service is like!"
If you did a good job, and they got value, and they want to keep going, charge them NO LESS than $500 a month. Preferably closer to 1k. Keep this in mind when picking a service or industry - pick something that people will pay that much for (dentists, for example, can make thousands per new patient. If you can get them 1 new patient a month, consistently, they will GLADLY pay you that amount to do so).
Rinse, repeat, until you have 10 clients a month. Congrats, you're now making 100,000 a year - with no employees, a light workload, and little to no infrastructure.
Sound like a lot of work? It is. Want to skip the first parts? You can't.
The problem with most people is that they want ABOVE AVERAGE results - income, sex, whatever - but only want to put in AVERAGE effort.
"If you want more, be more." - Motherfucking Jim Rohn.
And now, I need to get back to work. Keep your head up and good luck to you.

I would listen to this guy. I'm in the same boat as him. Did most of the above

I'm 24 work at a shitty gas station job and im on probation. I've got about $1000 in my bank account and a shitty car and about $1700 in cash with a $3000 tax return on the way (which needs to go to paying off various legal debts and lawyers, im also getting sued). I need to start paying student loans back soon and no one will hire me because im a college drop out on probation. I can't sell drugs because thats sketch and illegal and I'm on papers.
You need to get that record expunged. Without that your life is ultra-poverty forever. Done. Ended.
Yea, it got dropped from a felony to a misdemeanor with expungement if I complete my probation. I started anger management as soon as I could, and I'm going to start doing my community service within the next week. Within a month I got moved from high supervision to low supervision and I'm on good terms with my PO, she even mentioned that I might possibly get off probation early if I keep it up. I also have the best lawyer in the state whose done wonders for me.

First of all you need to evaluate your life choices because you've been in a lot of trouble and you need to stop doing that.

Stop viewing it in absolutes, start viewing it in number of zeros. You've got 3 zeros right now in your name. What can you do to get four? Pumping gas sucks. Clean up, invest in a suit, apply to businesses by working for free to get your foot in the door. Are you worth employing? If you aren't figure that out first.

Sell drugs.

First off, nobody traveling all summer too raves and music festivals is making an honest six figure income.
You gotta get that stupid idea out of your head. You are thinking in all the wrong places. You don't need to travel, you don't need to be in the bar, you don't need to be out spending money period, especially not on concert tickets.
You need to focus on getting off probation and getting that shit expunged. Get that win in the bank before you start trying all this extra shit youre on about.
Construction is going to be your friend if you lack any other marketable skills. You need cash inflow. Can't start a business without some root money. I'm all in for not being a working schmuck but there is definitely something to be said for the stability and source money a day job provides.
You don't need a new car you might need a new to you car, if you are cash strapped you need to drive what you got until it lights on fire or completely falls apart.
