You're a gamer. When you want to bond with sports guys just invite them over for some beers and a game of FIFA (or whatever popular sports game).

Any interest in Martial Arts? I gained a ton of close friends when I joined my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym. Guys I consider almost family because of how much I trust them not to hurt me in dangerous situations and vice versa. Plus when I was out of work and for a few months and finally got a job interview one of my teammates put in a good word for me and I was hired on the spot. So can't recommend martial arts enough to anyone who is even remotely interested. It's the full package, you get to learn how to defend yourself, you get in better shape, and you get a new group of friends. What more do you need?

Generally though, you just need to find group meetings of whatever interests you have. Since you like gaming you could look into finding guys that could do a LAN party for instance. I would suggest checking your local subreddit if you live near a decently large town or your states subreddit and try to see if anyone near you would be interested in getting together to do something. I see it all the time in my cities subreddit.

Also check out meetup.com to see if anyone is arranging anything you may be interested. May find something completely new.

I suggest going to a Magic the Gathering tournament. I know, it sounds lame, but you will meet some really cool guys that have the same interests as you do.

What are your hobbies? If you make music, then maybe get involved in the local scene and attend some shows? When I first moved to a new city, I found the easiest way to make friends was through hanging out with co-workers after work.

If you are new to the area, the easiest way for me to meet people is at school/work. If you're at a local bar try playing pool, darts or shuffleboard anything just to introduce yourself, this works with the ladies too. Branch out from there.

If you're looking for mentorship, find someone in the field and send them an email asking for an informational interview, in person or over the phone.

When you find those people, time to play the honest game. Just go up and say you'd like to be more like them with regards to X, and wanted to know how they got there. It doesn't mean that they should be treated like they're God, it means that you're there to learn about what they're good at, and in the process, they'll learn what you're good at. Guys who are also 'real' will recognize what you're doing, and help you on your journey if they have time. Otherwise you misjudged the individual, and need to re-evaluate if they're actually successful.

I'd look into co-ed social sports. Most decent sized cities have leagues. You can meet guys and girls. I ussually find that its more fun to go out with co-ed groups than just dudes.
