Unlike the other responses here, I'd say you do NOT need to have hobbies or ask questions to get friends, they're all good, but in no way a basic requirement for having friends. I've seen a lot of shitty people with no direction/purpose in life have many friends and a social circle.

First of all, you don't have friends because I guess you have low self-esteem, or a feeling of worthlessness. You need to KILL this feeling right away. Do not ever doubt yourself, and make sure that you maintain this frame all the time when you're out there with other people.

Everything else will happen naturally, without you realizing it when you have you stop doubting yourself.

Get a hobby. Find people who share that hobby. Meet with people and do the hobby together. Talk to those people. Find some connection (you already have one via the shared interest in the hobby) Meet them for drinks/other activities. Talk about private stuff / world views / whatever is on your mind. Be friendly, help people out, let others help you out, gain mutual trust, gain friendship

Ultimately, go do stuff that forces people to communicate with each other aka group hobbies and sports. Even if only 1 % of the people want to be your friends, you just need to meet 100 people to find that person (that's not statistically accurate but you get my point).

If there is one think I can help you with is this. It's going to be a long one. The comments here provide you with good examples, the idea is you get to hang out with people in many aspects with your life. Hobbies, work, school, college etc. Now meeting lots of people its easy, they are everywhere, but becoming friends with them is a process, if they allready have friends, and their lives are busy they won't just call you out of the blue asking to be your friend. Don't be embarrassed to tell your coworkers to go out for coffee and hang out or guys you meet at your dance class etc. When you get to hang out with them just relax, enjoy the moment. If you read TRP and lead a fullfilling lifestyle then people will enjoy your company.

All my friends became my friends after we hang out like 100 times, and I was there for them when they needed me, and most of them were there when I needed them. Just live your life , and arrange nights out with people you meet, be a social person.

There is a reason guy friendships are strong. Friendship takes time, and that's a good thing Once you hang out for some people for a while you can then realize if they are true friends or not, and even then some people will turn their back on you, you must accept that you are on your own unless you are lucky to bond with some of those guys you hang out with, so you become friends.

there are two types of "friends" in my experience:

People you sometimes hang out with

People you are truly friends with, without quotes.

Being friends with someone means mutual respect , helping each other no matter what. You don't go out looking for friends, you don't want to hang out with people who use you to gain value or something right? You want true friends!

In general it all boils down to this: Be a fun person, and find people with common interests and hang out with them. I have friends that I talk to every few weeks, but they were there for me every single time I needed them(a guy literally jumped in-front of a knife for me when a guy tried to mug us, but it's a rare case), and there are people I talk to or even hang out with everyday and I don't consider them as friends. And remember, it's a process, Friends and buddies is a different thing.
