In the United States, most people whose parents can afford orthodontic correction do so in their early to mid teens. This trains us to see braces as a sign of youth. I was STARTED at how young one of my 40 something plates looked when she got middle-life braces.

So there will be a superficial tendency to take you less seriously if you have braces. Unless, of course, you actually ARE you, in which case, it's just par for the course.

They're an overt display of what TRP preaches -- self-improvement in the name of SMV. With them on you're like the chubby guy at the gym; once they're off you'll be ripped (dentally speaking). Just make sure to wear your damn retainer...
