If it's in your genital area, you should discuss it.

If it's in your oral area, you can still transmit it to her genitals when providing oral.

YOU CAN SHED VIRUS ASYMPTOMATICALLY. That said, a lot of people have HSV-1 on their mouths.

If it's on your mouth, I wouldn't say the word "Herpes", I would say the word "cold sores". It freaks people out less, and it is still accurate.

HSV-1 is tricky, as is pretty common Consider whether she is likely to have it already or not. Don't go kissing virgins and nuns. That party/European girl kissing everyone? Go ahead. Avoid kissing people during flareups. Talk it over with LTRs and plates. If a woman freaks out, tell her to get tested before you kiss her.

Depends also on where you are. US the over all rate is only about 30%, not really a kissing culture. Specific places like New York city however the rate is more like 90%.

Not necessary in my opinion, as long as you don't have an outbreak and aren't contagious.

I'm almost certain I had it for years before I got my first (very small) breakout. I get them extremely rarely, and usually you can feel it tingling for a few days before you get it.

It is contagious from a few days pre-breakout until you get the hard scab-like surface.

If you don't have a breakout, there is no point in talking about it. She cannot catch it from you, and chances are she already has it.

I personally don't buy into the "germ theory" of disease, but this type of pathological qi can be very difficult to completely eradicate. Still, I look at it as no different than shingles, really. Prevention of outbreaks is key.
