I am a 20 M, I live in the dmv (Maryland to be more specific), have a step dad and mom, and both of them are very controlling. Now my step dad is more controlling and bosses my mom and usually wants things to go his way, when things don’t he starts grunting and getting angry depending on how bad he wanted it. Now with my mom she controls me and wants to mold me into what she wants me to be. A well groomed beta male making $200k yearly with some woman by my side who doesn’t even love me and is in it for the money. This stems from the fact that when she was in her teens and early 20s her sexual market value was high and she friend zoned and curved many guys (which doesn’t really bother me since I understand female nature now) in her prime. She eventually met my real father who was a player and got her pregnant and left. Now that she’s in her decline she tells me about the guys who she curved she would give them a chance if she saw them again. To add to this, I wanted to style my own hair and clothes and she gets upset about that especially the hair thing since I wanted a hairstyle that reminded her of my real father but she’s slowly accepting it.

Both of them want me to do college and right now I’m forced to go despite the fact I don’t really want to be in college. Shit got worse when the corona virus hit and I realized my step dad wanted me to stay inside. I have a job at a gas station and we’re have to stay open in order for customers to get their daily needs such as food, gas, supplies and etc. Step dad doesn’t care and gives me that “you don’t even get paid that much and go to work once a week” (note: I only go once a week because I was forced to limit hours due to them making me go to college which I had no say so in) excuse and tells me it’s not worth it.

I feel like he’s putting all his eggs in one basket and believes that I should just stop going to my job and do the four years and possibly get a job from that degree if I’m lucky and someone hires me. But to be honest I was getting paid $250 at my job and I almost had enough to get my own car but both of my parents told me no and wanted to have full control of me so they told me I have to drive my mom’s mid-2000s Toyota Camry. To make matters worse my mom tells me daily how much she’s gonna leave my step dad when all I notice is that she doesn’t back up her words. She says she’s gonna do something but doesn’t go along with it. She talks and gossips about how much she’s going to leave my step dad and how controlling he is but she’s scared to confront him and never does leave him. I lost my respect for her due to the fact her actions speak louder than her words.

The whole me going to college thing I feel like she only wants me to do college because she thinks once I graduate I can be her meal ticket out of Maryland from my step dad. My step dad doesn’t know any of this and it’s killing me I feel really trapped and before they stopped me having my own freedom I told them I wanted to take a year off and work at my job so I can earn a decent amount of money and move to Texas. Reason I say Texas is because I don’t like living in Maryland and I’m not even a dmv native my mom only moved me to Maryland because she was getting desperate and the stock market crashed and she didn’t have anywhere to go so she saw my step dad who was really her ex at the time doing good with his life and decided to take me into his home.

Now back to moving to Texas, they hated that idea like they wanted to leech onto me like I’m a damn dog or something it really disturbed me and I just don’t know what to do anymore. I need advice on what my plan should be whether to take their shit or just save up and move to a cheaper state before prices in every state go up too high
