Perhaps society is going the way of Rome, but Rome (the organization) didn't fall really until 1453 or so (depending on your definition).

Society in itself is the matrix. Humans lost individualism and it is the world we are witnessing. The world needs communities, not a society

The "society is decaying" fearmongers are a vocal minority. There will always be reactionaries that claim this. They've been saying the same thing for 50 years, and guess what? We're still going strong.

The AI will be in charge and humans will be their subjugates long before we have to worry about society decaying.

We are just individuals.

In short, there is nothing we can truly do as individuals to stem this decline. It will take an aware and coherently united society to stop this decline.

However, I'm a cynic (wasn't always like that.). The world is as it is because of the self-interests of each and every individual.

On an individual level, all we can do is be aware of it. From there, three paths open. One path is to do as we like. Another path is to slow or turn back this decline. The other path is to ride the wave, taking care to avoid the downfall and benefiting from opportunities.

I don't think society is declining as a whole, but instead is fracturing. Nations within nations are forming (TRP "nation" if you will) and some of those sub-societies are declining. New divisions are always forming (Red Pill v Blue Pill) and competing. A certain amount of decay is necessary to evolution, I think media just tends to focus on it, and so it seems pervasive when really it all balances out.
