Look. People who like our military won't like what I'm about to say. It does have some benefits. But seriously, don't join it.

Once you sign that contract, you're fucking locked in. Do you value freedom? Then don't sign unbreakable contracts that turn you into property of our gov.

There are much better alternatives to find what you're looking for.

Edit: Yes, our soldiers ironically do provide the public with a sense of freedom I guess. But the overall ROI for those soldiers is shit. They get a bad deal except for getting the GI bill. Just a heads up.

I've always had a problem with following retarded orders and killing people who have done nothing to me. In spite of all the positive things about the experience, you need to keep that in mind: you're giving up your freedom and might be called upon to do some really evil shit for the sake of very rich people.

Since everyone seems to be arguing "No" I thought I'd chime in. Look, you can find a reason (or excuse) not to do anything. People will say you serve your corporate overlords and give up your freedom. Well, everyone does that. It's the world we live in. Unless you live in the wilderness, pay no taxes and barter for trade rather than use $$$, you're a culpable contributor to the un-freedom and slavish social control systems as much as anyone else. The only way out is off the grid, in a state of tax revolt, or by biting a bullet. All anyone can do is try to ride the wave to their benefit and don't let any internet revolutionary tell you any different.

So that argument out of the way, the military can be an excellent way to test yourself mentally and physically as a man. You can learn things about yourself and your limits you didn't know before. And there is nothing in this world, no workout, no vacation, no extreme sport or manufactured risks, that tests your courage, stamina and willpower, like sustained combat and risk of death. It is a natural and masculine thing to seek out opportunities like this, and to seek out enemies to challenge.

Also, by sharing trial and hardship (I mean real, physical, mortal hardship) with other men, you will enjoy trust and brotherhood that is not easily duplicated in the civilian world. You don't know any man as well as the ones you see awake for 30+ hours and on patrol, getting shot at or ducking gunfire, carrying 75lbs on their back, all while being underfed and underf**ked for a few months. So yes, there are bonds there that cannot be matched. You will not make friends like this again.

So there is a real opportunity to improve yourself along this path in a way that you cannot find outside the military, but you must own this path for yourself and find your own reasons. We all must choose whether to try and thrive within the institutions we have left in our society that allow us some room for improvement, or else abandon them entirely. The military can be a waste. So can college. But they both present unique opportunities for experience that are impossible to find anywhere else. I can tell you that the military was a great choice for me. And a piece of advice: choose a combat role, choose the hardest role you can, that pushes you.

Does anyone else have military experience or could give me a redpill perspective on military life in general?

Go to forum with military members (specifically Australian) and ask them about it. I'm American and I view the military as a massive waste of funds that benefits a few wealthy people.

100k is a decent sum of money though. If you lived frugually, saved, and invested the money, then I think this would be a good decision. Spend 4 or 5 years training, killing whoever your government orders, and you have 80-120k in savings at the end.

That being said, there's a few things to consider. Cost of living. Is 100k, that average pay?? What's your chance of seeing combat and possibly getting hurt? Being a veteran isn't fun. What are you going to do after the military? Being a retired veteran doesn't entice a lot of employers. Go to an australian military forum.

Never be the best of worst in anything. If you manage to finish the military and no officer knows your name, then you won.
