Dear Red Pillers,
I know that the mantra "Never Get Married" is golden here. However, I have an unusual situation, where I think that getting married will be good for my goals. Please do let me know if I'm wrong.
My girlfriend and I have been together for nearly 5 years. Before that I banged between 20 and 30 women, and I now desire security from a woman, and want to start a family. My girlfriend is from a South East Asian country, and I'm a western male. I lent her $18,000 to get a degree/teaching license, and she is currently paying me back - no problem.
I would like to semi-retire (I'm early 30s, she is 27), and I think that by marrying her, I can stay in her tropical South-East Asian country, while she works and pays the bills. (She is happy to do this, as I have turned her life around with my loan.) She has a great job, and now she earns just as much as I do currently.
Also, by marrying her, I will be able to get my future kids Western passports, and ensure that I am able to stay in their country of birth. (I haven no desire to live in the West anymore - I've lived in various foreign lands for over 10 years now.)
Wouldn't marrying her make sense in my case?
