dumb question. this is going to be highly dependent on where you live. the cost to live in california is wayyyy more expensive than say kansas. google the median cost of living by state. that will give you a ballpark of what income levels are like in your area.

Find out what the salary range is for your position/specialty/field. If the pay is shit then change positions or change the field you're in altogether. If the pay is good on the higher end of the scale then find a job willing to pay you the higher end of the scale. This can possibly take a long time but it will be worth it. Work at this job while you start your own business. If you have any debt, pay that shit off as quickly as possible. Anyone you owe money to owns you. The only way to become wealthy is to own your own business. The slowest way to make money is to work for someone else. The second most valuable thing on earth is your time (the first most important being your health). Trading your time for money is the worst deal you can make, this is why you don't want to work for someone else and you should start your own business. No one ever becomes wealthy by working a 9 to 5 and saving their money.
