Hey man. I’m only 23, but I had a drinking problem for a while. I binge drank every weekend of college. It slowly developed into me drinking a little every day. A few beers every day then binge drinking 3 nights a week for about 3 months.

It sucked. It became such a habit and I was in such a low place. It was like the only thing to lift up my spirits was the booze. I became quiet and antisocial until I had a few drinks. My memory got worse.

It got to the point where so many negatives stacked against me that I knew I had to change. It was messing with my meds (I suffer from bipolar disorder) so I was pretty depressed. I couldn’t remember basic things like days of the week sometimes. I’d call into work. Aside from mentally, it was physically taking a toll too. I started gaining weight rapidly. All of my gym strength progress plateaued. I had almost nothing to live for.

I saw myself throwing my life away. I saw a future me - fat, depressed, alone... and no memory. I made a change because I knew the toll it would take if I didn’t stop. I quit cold turkey and never looked back. I swear to God quitting alcohol was so much easier knowing the power it had to change my life. I’m 9 months sober. My memory is back, I’m losing weight, and I’ve been relatively happy for quite some time.

It was hard at times. But the easiest way is to stop entirely. Turn down drinks from friends. Empty out your fridge and cabinets. Drink a diet soda to replace cravings. You are already changing. Now, how to unfuck yourself? Easy answer is you just stop and put all energy into your mission.

Long answer. Familiarize yourself with psychology focused on betterment. Look for articles, books videos. HealthyGamer have a host who can explain concepts clearly. Though sometimes he mixes in Buddhist philosophy, if that's not your cup of tea.

Listen to your own signals and try to figure yourself out. Why would you rather drink alcohol than water? If you don't buy alcohol you have nothing to drink. There will be withdrawal period of pain, and a strong pull for alcohol. Prepare yourself to weather the storm.

If I do A, then B happens. So if I stop A, B still happens? Okey something else drives B.

Not to fuck yourself more on the way, you have develop thoughts of a winner. If you ever done sport there is losers mentality and winners mentality. Thus, winners win losers lose. Sometimes to win you just need a few more tries.

You may want to consider professional help. Join a group, find a good male psychologist, maybe both. No shame in it. This shit can get anyone.
