Recently, I've entered the world of corporate America and I work for an investment banking company. I've been on the job for three weeks, the first two weeks being orientation and this past week being my first week at the desk.

Currently, my work attire consists of dress pants/slacks, a nice button down, and shoes to match. During orientation, this wasn't an issue, but upon hitting the desk, there is a big difference. I work on the technology side of the company and developers usually wear jeans, t-shirts/polos, and tennis shoes. I've built rapport with a team member and he even asked if dressing up is my style or if I'm going to tone it down/dress like a developer.

I've recently read The 48 Laws of Power and it seems I'm in conflict between two laws:

Law 1: Never Outshine The Master(s). Because I'm a new hire, I'm at the bottom of the totem pole.

Law 34: Be Royal in Your Fashion: Act Like A King to Be Treated Like One. I've heard a saying that I've stuck to ever since hearing it: "Dress how you want to be addressed."

My question is, how should I navigate this situation? Any advice would be helpful.
