Abundance mentality can apply to more than just women.

I'm currently in the process of interviewing for the next stage in my career, and much like in years past I'll probably end up with 2-4 offers at once, with my pick of the litter. Unlike in years past, however, I don't want to just accept the best offer, I'd like to see if I can leverage them against the others to maximize my compensation package (salary/benefits).

At this point, I have a pending offer (that is, I've been informed they are putting together an offer package for me), and two more companies that I expect offers from by the end of the week (could fall through, but I'm confident I nailed it during the interviews).

I've read a few posts on TRP (particularly this one) . I have not told any of these companies my current salary, but I have told them a range that I expect to make. None of them have balked at the number I gave, which was higher than industry average for my location, and would be approximately a 30-40k bump up in pay.

Why I'm posting here is to get anecdotes/examples of negotiation strategies. I figure I can get company X to bump me up an extra 5-10k if they know company Y has also made me an offer (assume I prefer company X). Does anybody have any examples/strategy/advice to share?

For reference, I'm a mid-level Software Engineer at a well-known SAAS company in the mid-west.

EDIT: There's probably a better sub-reddit for this.
