A lot of mixed advice in here. Firstly though, relax. Everything will be alright. I've had it for 2 years now and am pretty knowledgeable about it. I'm very proactive in handling it, and get laid regularly( I tell every girl I have it too beforehand). It has a very negative social stigma(especially here on TRP), but medically speaking is extremely mild, and ultimately hasn't affected my life much.
If you just caught it (within 8 weeks), and you have blisters, you can see a doctor who can do a swab test. If you don't have blisters, they are scabbed over, and it's been less than 8 weeks, don't waste your time or money yet. Just be a decent person and avoid sex, because if you do have it right now it will be very easy for you to give it to people. After ~8 weeks your body will create antibodies and it will show up on blood tests. After a positive blood test or swab test, you can get prescription suppressive medication that's cheap with insurance.

Same as before I had it. I'm in good shape, and am a cool guy to be around. Taking medication and wearing a condom 80% of the times reduces the chance of transmission to something like 2% over the course of 8 month's worth of sex. So on an individual sexual encounter, while wearing a condom, its very small. Some girls want to do research or talk to their doctors before having sex. Others are already pretty knowledgeable about it, and aren't phased.
Most girls I date are in their 20's. I've had only one plate ask me not to wear a condom after a few months; She was a nurse..
