If you are good at following direction and need to be told what to do, then sure. Not all men like carving their own paths. It's too anxiety inducing. The army provides a structure that is similar to high school. Do everything we tell you and you will succeed.

Also, must have no issues with lots of jogging. You wont last with knee problems.

I wouldn't call the military BP. The military is truly a socialist society. Everyone has their job, pay is fixed, access to community resources are guaranteed and shared. You will be forced to operate at a level that everyone can operate at. If you have a slow weak member on your team your team will perform at that level. However, if you have problems with "discipline and willpower" the military will unfuck that portion of your life.

The military is truly its on society and it has pros and cons. I am in the camp that every citizen should find some way to serve their country (military, Law enforcement, first response, etc).

My thoughts on the Air Force. Their basic is the easiest of all the branches. The Air Force does have most of the advance positions, like Space Command and Missile Defense. However their are many people with high ASVAB scores and the rigor of the intellectual positions will be identical to your Mech Engr courses. If your instructors deem that you cannot perform the required tasks of your position they will remove you from the course and reassign you a job... probably a cook. Then you get to finish the remainder of your contract as a cook.

If you're looking for a manly experience the Army or Marines will make a fighter out of you. The work isn't very intellectual but there is a charm to how attentive they are to the details. Plus getting shot at will really let you know who you are inside.

Lastly the Navy, they have a good mix of technical positions and if you are looking for a follow on career they would be the best choice. Knowledge of global logistics through oceanic transportation is invaluable.

I say it should be mandatory, but the second you get in, start working on an exit strategy. Don't get anyone pregnant, get qualifications and get out. They will use you up, but can be a great springboard to a better career

I'm not American, so I don't know the fine details, but I'm sure you can learn a trade, get a degree, training, etc. and come out the other side with a good network, contacts, job opportunities and that stuff. Worked for me - highly recommended.

Also, depending what corps you join, you'll learn just how tough you can be when you really want to and how physical exhaustion most people go through is actually the subconscious saying "I don't wanna".

I spent a decade with the Canadian Military Engineer Reserves and if you were Canadian, I could write you a script to follow. However, I don't think you are but I will recommend that you go combat engineer, if you got that route at all.

Perhaps you have the smarts to go officer but maybe not the self-discipline to slog through the numbers and equations and tables and such.

As a combat engineer you learn a shit load of transferable skills in terms of construction, project management, heavy equipment operation, explosive demolitions, water purification, surveying and more. Plus you get the rah-rah of having a secondary task as infantry.

The military, as a career in motion, is not blue pill but the Forces That Be^TM do their best. The issue is whether military service is beta rather than alpha because you have some fuckwad telling you what to do all the time.

It's your life, mate. I would have to do a bit more research (and I won't, that is for you to do) to tell you about the GI program and other benefits of putting in 4 years or so.

Just don't get yourself killed in the process if you don't have the my country, right or wrong" mentality.

TBH, combat engineer can be really, fucking dangerous and maybe you would want to choose logistics or be a REMF. Not a dis, just an observation.

Don't blow a potential signing bonus on anything flashy. The Dependopotamus can smell it from a mile away. The Chair Force is probably going to be the branch that treats it's people the best.

Make sure you know damn well what you're getting into. And get into excellent physical condition BEFORE going in, so you can kill it once you are in.

Its BETA AF. Go into trades make money with no debt. Unless you get an MOS that is technical its a waste
