What do you do to avoid getting sick or reduce your downtime when you get sick?

This is just how it works for me... Not trying to claim it works for everyone. Well, maybe the squat part.

To prevent:

Don't kiss sick women
Get enough sleep.
Eat a balanced diet with plenty of veggies
Drink plenty of water
Don't push your body too far

If I am sick:

Do squats
Get extra sleep
Take vitamin C supplements
Drink plenty of water
Eat light foods (salad)

I'm a singer so getting sick not only sucks but can definitely screw me in terms of gigs. Therefore I nip things in the bud early.

Prevention: Wash hands, especially after the bathroom (you would be surprised how many people don't do this).
Don't touch your nose, ears or mouth. If you have to shake hands in cold season, sanitize quickly afterwards (obviously not in front of them).
Avoid kids - they are walking germ factories.

When getting sick: Oil of oregano - 5-6 drops in a glass of water 3x a day.
Megadose Vitamin C - can do up to 5,000mg a day. Same as Cold FX.
Sleep more, make it a priority.
Drugs at night - ie knock yourself out with a bunch of stuff. My favourite combo is Neo Citran, Benylin and Tylenol. Napalm that bastard as much as possible. Wake up feeling much better usually.
Mild exercise is fine for 20-30 minutes but no heavy lifting.

I take an echinacea tincture when I'm starting to feel sick to curb it off. Has always worked for me. Doesn't work when you're full blown sick

How to avoid getting sick: -Wash your hands. -Get the flu shot. -Avoid touching your face in highly public areas. -Pure luck and genetics.

How to recover faster when you do: -Eat salad and protein. Spinach, broccoli and kale are the way to go Lettuce has almost no nutritional value. -Go to bed early and get 9-10 hrs sleep, even if you don't feel sleepy per se. -Postpone physical and emotionally stressful activities/ tasks. -Avoid taking painkillers during the day. The pain and fatigue is there for a reason, to keep you from doing shit you don't have to.

I practice preventative care.

lift
balance your diet
visit a doc quarterly
stay up to date on vaccinations
I take any supplements recommended
don't touch sick people
don't fuck teachers (they're exposed to everything I swear)
no dirty/messy girls, no fat chicks, both are a lack of attention to health and well being.
no druggies
always wrap it before you tap it.

If you do come down with something, I would and do practice,

I'll call out one day and about medicine to hit temperature break
eat more, drink more than that
skip alcohol and anything immunosuppressive
take meds if the first day isn't enough to be functional
