First off, you can't be everything to everyone. Some things that will boost your SMV in niche circles to extreme levels will absolutely decimate your SMV in others.

For example, I have sleeves and generally look like a biker. This makes my SMV among strippers, Suicide Girl-types, and general 'bad' chicks much, much higher. These are the kinds of girls I like, so I go with it (More importantly, it's because it's how I like to look, but I'm trying to keep it in context).

My appearance does not help me get with Barbie and her pink Corvette. It probably makes me have to work harder with financial-type chicks. It probably eliminates me from a lot of more conservative-minded women's radar.

I think the trade-off is far, and it makes me happy, so I don't care.

I guess the question is, is it working for you? Are you experiencing success with the dreads? Metal chicks might like it more, other girls might like it less. How is the rest of your fashion? There are a lot of components to SMV and hairstyle is only one of them. Dreads do have a bit of a stigma these days and will likely make most people's knee-jerk reaction be to think that you're a stoner / hippie / yoga type, but that may be what you're going for, it's hard to say.

SMV is not a hard and fast thing, and changes based on the circles you run in. Only by gauging reactions and IOI's can you really make that call.

If you put dreads on a good looking guy, he will have a high SMV. Or spiky hair. Or awesome hair. Or a nice hat. So if you are good looking they will still be attracted to you.

On the flip side, dreads might have a similar effect to having tattoos, the message that it sends. I for instance avoid tattooed chicks, even if I find them attractive because they are most likely major league sluts. And most are. For you it might make you look dangerous or hippie, I don't actually know anyone with dreads so I wouldn't know.

This shit is why I never got a tattoo, even though I like how they look and the idea of it. Where I live a tattoo mostly brands you as a bad person, dangerous, maybe even criminal or out of jail.

Either be yourself image-wise and miss some opportunities, or be generic and try to bang em all.

Generic IMO gives you a baseline from where you work your way up each girl you "approach", specific looks makes it easier with some types of girls, harder with others and impossible with others.

For example, I'm 6'2 210lbs Asian 15~18BF%, decent success overall, but there's a specific type of girl that likes Asians without any of the Asian male stereotypes, they like westernized Asians, and as there's not many of us in my country, they are DTF from day 1, for them your SMV is over 9000.

Hippie chicks are gonna love it but tbh I've never met a white guy with good looking dreads. Generally if he pulls it off its because he's a hot guy who could pull off anything.
