I'm a father and I love my son so damn much. It's really hard to describe but a child will make you experience things differently.

Back-story for context.

I was married and living a blue pill life but somehow applied red pill concepts (dread, abundance, IDGAF etc). That was keeping my marriage floating.

When my son was born, I went through some hardship and while I did bounce back, it caused a tear to spread and shatter my frame.

My marriage fell apart and I became a single dad.

That severely limits my game, career, options and everything. I also have to be more accountable due to my child.

With that said. I. Wouldn't. Change. A. Thing.

I love that little guy so much that it hurts sometimes. He's a tiny version of me and adorable and I enjoy my time with him more than my time alone or with 100 different women.

My ex(and many women) do use children to hurt the man and it has brought me pretty close to ending it all, but it's also given me a new strength and purpose to be a better man for him to grow up with a masculine example.

I have a wall of his stuff (drawings and paintings) near my bed that motivates me each day and when I'm down, I think about how he was helping me do push ups by sitting on my back and counting trying to count reps (little guy had a hard time with 13 which always made me laugh)and it cheers me up.

He wants to go fishing with his dad and says that he wants to hunt with me but I can't "shoot cats or dogs"... It's shit like that you can't explain but have to experience.

It's more real to me than a plate saying she loves me during climax or skydiving.

I don't know. It's really hard to explain. You just have to go through it. It's not for everyone though. I have met fathers that envy those that don't have kids.

It's your call. Plus, while expensive, you can get it reversed or adopt a kid in life. I don't believe that it's a permanent decision.

Disclosure: not a parent (far from that) and not fully TRP'ed, but I also think this is not a TRP-only discussion. Married RP'ers might have better insight into this discussion. I will try to be the devil's advocate for a bit.

So why do you guys want kids?

Because we're wired to want to reproduce and have our own kids. It's an instinct that is very important for the entire species. If all men would think like that, then none would procreate and the entire species would have died a long ago.

Kids don’t love their parents and are pretty damn selfish not much of a return from them.

Some do, and it is your duty as a parent to provide for them. You don't get to be loved by someone only because you managed to have sex with a fertile woman. You have to build trust with that human being.

All of the time you spend raising them could be spent on fun stuff.

It's more about spending time now (at the peak of your life) helping someone in the hope that when you are old and ill, someone will help you.

I do get it, coming from the TRP mindset of I don't need anybody in my life for too long, dependence means weakness and so on. But there are also feelings involved, and part of TRP is do what you want to do (as long as it is not a stupid thing). Moreover, some might consider that having a child is easy for them (they have all the resources they need).

Also, the way I see it, I personally can ask the same thing about my career as a researcher:

Why should I bother with a 6 year long Uni in one of the most stressful careers, only to make myself known to only the ones around me, maybe get some international recognition, a slight chance for a Nobel prize or whatever, only for all of my work to be replaced in less that 50 years after my death? Why shouldn't I stick to a good-paying job that I can do better and with less effort, have only the necessary thing, fuck and party till my death?

To that I would respond with because that's what I like to do, discover new things and help humanity, and I get genuine pleasure from that. And dads will respond the same: because that's what I like to do, have a child that I try to raise to be the greatest person alive.

instinctually, we are driven to reproduce. That is written in the genetic code of all living animals

intellectually, I think it's a belief that a person is better suited than the average of the species to prolong the species. Social observations can moderate this belief. This kinda gets into the idea of why there is altruistic suicide

If you're asking the question with respect to having your own kids, I always recommend not having kids, because it's clear that you either don't want them or don't understand the internal argument enough to support them properly

Spend time picking the mother and make sure it's someone that you can click with on that level, and honestly its a different skill set for girl to make a good mother than a good plate.

Kids are fun, and honestly I love spending time with them, and watching/helping them grow.

I really can't stress this enough that it's the quality of the girl that makes the difference, one of my kids mothers flipped/bitched the day is pissed positive and developed into a Karen in the course of minutes, but the girl was in her low 20's was cute, with a masters degree from an ivy league, a real job, and seven figures worth of cash in the bank... Just realize what the person is like before you get into that with them, and make sure they have a bit of age.

I don't and thank god I broke up with a crazy ex that wanted them. I can't imagine how miserable my life would have been if I caved in to her demands. In my 40ies I now have all the time in the world to follow my hobbies, workout, travel. I look at my friend with kids and they all seem unhappy.

As others have already touched on, human nature and instinct to procreate. Eventually I want my focus to be towards my family and make the sacrifice don't want to reach old age alone.
