Trying to keep this short and sweet.

TL;DR - how do you avoid workplace politics and maintain a positive vibe whilst working in a team full of women?

I'm the new guy at a job in pathology. I'm almost 4 months into a training programme which lasts a year and I'm in a team where I'm only one of two guys (boss is female).

Broke frame (showed frustration) with my boss a few weeks ago about my training. Been doing the same thing everyday for almost 3 months and there was no progression - there's a lot we need to go through within the 12 months and no one was helping me out. I've been stuck in the middle - I can't ask many questions as I need to go with the flow and take my time with things... but because I didn't ask questions about moving things along (which I already had done), they assumed that I was comfy in my job and they didn't need to do anything. Smh.

A bombshell hit the lab - my mentor (who was here for 20 years) has decided to hand in her notice. This meant having a burning desire to get stuck into the training. This isn't even a job for me - I'm passionate about what I do. I put my heart and soul into whatever task I can do (even though I'm shit atm).

Had a go at my boss for not moving things along, I've also volunteered myself to work an extra hour each morning for a month to get more training in whilst maintaining workflow. Have been doing this since last two weeks.

Only issue now is that the main staff are highly reserved with me. One of the staff, whom I had a lot of respect for, has changed her approach with me. She's more reserved.

A week ago my boss had a go at me being unprofessional, yet called me a 16-year old boy who complains and doesn't get his way with things. She called me rude for asking for a confidential meeting in front of another boss and coming across as dictating. And because she knew it took me over 2 years to get this role - she brought that up and said I was acting as if they needed me and not the way around.

I'm all about teamwork and fulfilling a collective responsibility of maintaining hospital lab workflow. I care more about the work and patients than having a fun time with all the staff. But all of this has happened...

The women have (basically all of them) have changed towards me as a result.

What the fuck do I do? I need to stay for the remainder of my training. I can't afford to find another role because this was super-competitive to get into. It really did take me over 2 years to get here.
