I've been independent for about 4 years now. I paid for my own crappy degree (international studies) by going through my school's ROTC program and commissioning as an officer in the reserves. I have a few marketable skills (I speak 3 foreign languages, but they're rusty). For the past 3 months I've been doing training out at Fort Jackson.

I just got home to my parents' and I'm trying to figure out a job. I've been looking since about halfway through training, but nothing has come up for me. I've had calls and phone interviews but no dice. I had plans to move to Seattle but my dad is telling me "wait until you get a job and then move, or even stay home for a few months until you get on your feet and have a better plan than the one you have now." I don't want to stay here long term and taking handouts from my parents isn't high on my list of priorities, but I don't want to just get out and waste resources only to have to move back in at a later date.

The area they live in is very rural. I spent about a year here before I moved out, but I have no interest in living here as the dating scene is pretty much dead, as is local culture outside of skiing or outdoor summer activities.

Seattle was high on my list of places to go because it has the most likely spot for someone with my degree to find a job. Other options involve staying more local and getting on with a police or fire department.

Please, I'd like some advice.
