Maybe don’t deactivate, as it does have its uses. But I would recommend reducing how much you use it

I recently deleted Facebook off my phone and deleted EVERYONE (apart from family) whom I haven't spoken to in the last half year. Currently, I'm just using it to see which social events are going on in my area.

I deleted a few years back and 'started fresh' - only added people I speak to IRL, avoided temptation to add girls that I lurked or orbitted (come on guys, you don't keep her as a friend for her inspirational quotes and refreshing updates on the changing seasons) and never actually post anything including photos.

When you post your photos/views/life online you're seeking validation.

I now just keep it as a functional tool for logistics, chats with the guys, updates on a niche hobby that I have and for work.

No, have one but only use it for whatever groups it's convenient or necessary to be a member of for business, work, hobbies or interests. After all, you would probably not ask "do you recommend not having a phone", would you?

My groupchat uses messenger so I still have the messenger app. But after deleting the app I never get on it anymore and only barely feel like I'm missing out ok n events. Seems like they all get posted there so I just have to stay in the loop of my favorite venues in town and use my personal calendar more.
