Have you ever texted a girl you liked and got no response? I have...many times and it is annoying AF! After experiencing this issue way too many times I decided to really dive into what the problem was.

But before we get into these 10 secret texting rules, let me share with you my experience in texting girls before I learned these 10 texting rules. Back in the day, getting ignored over text used to happen to me more than I’d like to admit. I would get a text conversation going with a girl I was crushing on and all of a sudden she would stop responding to my messages. You should avoid texting her when you know that she is busy like when she’s at work or at the gym. More likely than not, when she reads your text, she will feel like you are interfering with her happy time.

Moreover, do not text her all day long. Text her only when you are sure that she is free to text you back. Within a few days of texting her, you could see the particular times of the day when she indulges in longer text conversations. Once you figure that time, text her at the same time every day.

My go-to is texting girls in the evening. If she is comfortable with texting late at night, your chance to get her to fall for you is higher. You can start by texting her late in the evening and then try to keep the conversation going until she lies in her bed. This way she will literally be dreaming about you and that is certainly not a bad thing!

Secret #2. Start with A Very Short Text If you have been texting her for a few days, there is no need to look for a reason to text her again. Start with a simple line that makes her feel good to read. It helps open up the conversation and helps you know whether she is free to text you. Try something like “Hey, what are you doing?”, “Hi” or a smiley face works well to start a conversation. If she is not free, she will tell you or reply when she has the time.

You need to make her pay attention to you when she is texting. Secret #4. Don’t Flirt All The Time When you have a great chance to spice up your texting conversation, flirt with her. Wait for that perfect moment and make use of that opportunity to tease her, especially when she compliments herself on doing something. But sometimes you need to dial back the flirting and text her for the purpose of getting to know her. Ask her more about her life so she feels like you are genuinely interested in her. Just remember to avoid boring topics such as work, your daily problems or politics.

Secret #5. Use Emoticons Unless the girl you like specifically hates emoticons, you should text her a smiley face every once in a while. Take note that I didn’t say all the time but just here and there. Being overly aggressive with emoticons will definitely be frowned upon by your crush but a well-placed emoticon will demonstrate your playful attitude and flirtatiousness.

Secret #6. Keep It Positive When you text a girl you like, keep it positive at all times. If you often smile when texting her, you will naturally add positivity to your texts. Try to avoid saying that your day was boring, or that you hate your boss because quite frankly, she does not want to hear that. Even if your day was terrible, there is always at least one highlight you can share with her. If you have nothing fun to say, simply come back to it later. Don’t text a girl when you are not in a good headspace.

Secret #7. Create Personal Memories You should look for natural ways to create a bond between you and the girl you like. Tell her about your favorite movie, song, or place and whenever she comes across something both of you have talked about, she will think of you. You can also talk about how special she is or compliment her for her personality. You may want to say something like “I always learn so much from you” or “You’re good at what you do” or simply “You look great today”. This can make her feel happy and more connected to you.

A great way to make a girl smile over text is to make fun of yourself. This will cause the girl to bring her guard down allowing her to feel more comfortable when texting you. Just make sure you straddle the fine line of humorous self-deprecation and full-blown self-shaming which will be a surefire attraction killer for her!

Secret #9. Make Her Chase You Nothing in life worth having comes easy and this saying relates perfectly to dating. Women want a man who give them a challenge and are often bored by men who make everything too easy. Therefore, when you text the girl you like, make her chase you by giving her some challenges. Do not accommodate all of her wishes, do not respond to her texts immediately and don’t write her out lengthy paragraph responses. Generally, whoever puts the most effort into the conversation is the person doing the chasing. So, if you want to make her chase you, then you have to ensure she is the one putting in more work. I like to ensure her effort to mine is a 2:1 ratio to keep the chase alive.

Secret 10. Work On Being Grammatically Correct If you are not a good speller, then this can get limit your ability to impress the girls you like over text. According to Match.com, 96% of women said that good grammar was essential in a partner ranking it higher in importance than confidence and even the condition of their teeth. Moreover, another analysis by Grammarly, a proofreading company, revealed that a man with two spelling mistakes in his online profile was 14 per cent less likely to receive a positive response. With advancements in auto-correct technology in all smartphones, there is really no excuse for grammatical errors so my advice is to take an extra second to proofread your texts before sending them.
