(Don't know where you are, but in NYC it's about 5 degrees F outside) Waiting at the bus stop today, I said to HB8, "It's so hot outside I can't even stand it!" She laughed and that was that... #close.

Balls up mate, sit next to her. If she got on after you move seats. Somebody next to her? Sit on her lap and open with something like "Oh, hello there." Courage wolf meets socially awesome penguin. It worked for me once on the light rail, lololol.

If you want to go situational you can always complain out loud about it being late or something - it's not brilliant but it gets the job done... and if you're late for something it shows you have somewhere better to be? It has worked for me in the past.

Realistically though, you don't need anything too fancy - buses are boring and you're providing her with some entertainment. Just make sure you figure out where she's getting off the bus early on so you don't run out of time to get a number.
