S'up seddit.

1.) I love y'all

2.) Anybody got any advice and resources on how to be witty? I spent the past 8 years cultivating how to be random and make unexpected actions, which sadly means I have no wit.

I'll share some of the tips and resources that have worked for me in the past, would be awesome if people could post theirs:

  • The Serious Guide to Joke Writing by Sally Holloway. Been a while since I've read it. However I have noticed when I'm in State I automatically reference the associative techniques she outlined in here. Plus this was the first book that allowed me to write puns of my own. Trust me when I say this was a huge achievement for me.

  • Mock The Week, if you're a brit like me you won't need this explained. For the rest of the world this is a comedy panel show staffed by comedians who make comedic banter over the week's news. Watching this everyday in my 2nd year of Uni, kinda helped. Like I said before, when I enter State, things just start coming out, and when it's not the usual random diatribe I emit (which people find entertaining surprisingly), I think I can credit any witty associations made to countless hours of exposure to this show. However I've cut down my TV consumption (this is one of the few communities that will understand why), so haven't seen this in a while. Also correlation doesn't equal causation. I have no idea if it was because of watching comedy that my previous outburts of wit occured.

  • Shakespeare need I say more?

  • Taking part in improv. I've done some theatre work in University. We would usually do group improv exercises during rehearsals to warm up. Obviously this worked.

Does anybody else have any tips or resources they've used that helped? I'm not going to accept that humour and wit are natural talents. Anything can be learned.
