Everyone wants an exciting life, men often get this from reaching difficult goals (work, sports, whatever). Women find excitement from relationships and social interactions with people.

Having a guy they can fully predict every conversation / action with is completely boring, you need to be unexpected and keep them excited to be with you.

Learning to balance it with the girl though is not something that can really be taught, just look for their body language and overall tone towards you.

Not really. Women don't crave it. What they do crave is passion and excitement. HOWEVER, that's not quite Drama. When a woman gets hurt emotionally, it hurts them a bit more than it does men. That's what alot of men don't understand. If I were to punch you in the arm, your reaction wouldn't be nearly as intense as if I were to kick you in your balls. So, emotional pain is not nearly as bad for most men as it is for most women. And the reaction to pain is thus analogue.

They want bad boys, they want to be teased and abused.

Nobody really wants to be abused. No woman would actually go into a relationship hoping the man they're with hits them and berates them. They DO want excitement, and more often than not those bad boys are more exciting than other guys. Most men are pussies, too, so that bad boy thing sticks out even more.

They love it when a guy is intentionally just out of reach.

You'll notice that lots of people associate things that are tough to get as being worth the effort. I mean, look at college. Or expensive clothing.

It seems to color their idea of what flitation is. I can imagine the buzz of excitement they get when a man can pull this off, but I just can't picture it.

I like to think of it as a sliding scale of flirting based on the girl.

Certain girls are hit on over and over and over and over, and they've heard it all. You need to be exciting and different with them.

Other girls, especially in this day and age, have rarely felt excitement from a man and you don't need to do anything different with them.

However, it's impossible to really know for sure unless you've talked to a girl for a while, so just be very exciting with all girls. That's the basis of flirting.

Flirting is all about making a girl feel, and you want her to associate good feelings with you, especially good, sexual feelings.

Where the boundary is, when I've gone too far

The boundary is different for every girl, but it's much better to push at those boundaries or even cross them than it is to just play safe. If you play it safe, you will be friend zoned.

You should never stop being exciting.

Well, you want to start at the lower end for all women, and then build up your flirting.

Think of it as a scale from 0-100, 100 being open, dirty talk. 0 would be a simple "Hi."

Gauge the girl, and go up along the scale evenly and deliberately. You must gauge the girl. Some girls, you will go up the scale by 10 or so. Others, more like 2.

Don't be afraid of turning the dial back if you need to.

You learn this with experience, and in the moment. In fact this is pretty much seduction in a nutshell. Pushing boundaries.
