Great to see you breaking out of your shell and just being social with those around you! Keep up the good work!

Socializing is a positive feedback cycle (in the technical sense). The more you do it, the more rewarding it is and the more naturally it comes. Just be social with everyone. Talk to the cashier, comment on stuff as you go by (saw a guy walking a dog today, and his dog was sniffing everything, i commented saying "man, he's really gotta sniff everything huh?", started a conversation), the more you do it, the more it happens, the more natural it becomes.

You still have lots of AA. Try picking a particular type of girl (for me its the petite one's with big tits), and whenever you see that type, you must go speak to her, no matter what constraints are present. This can lead to interesting (hilarious) and helpful results. Don't worry about your openers, just go say "Hi" and go with the flow. Everyone is nervous and wants to meet people. God I've even opened with "so I have this thing where I have to talk to every girl that is a certain type, you're that type, how's it going?"

I think the only thing you can really do in this situation is keep talking to people. Let people be cold and unfriendly, you will learn to be tough.

With smiling and eye contact, you may not realize how uncommon it is, but between strangers it is very uncommon. Shine your good vibes from the inside out, people will notice.

So what now? I have serious trouble #-closing, even after talking to a few girls for an entire soccer game/class/hang out in the lobby.

A lot of people are into the whole "we should go for a tea or coffee sometime, what would be the best way to contact you." train of conversation. This can be a good one, because you are getting them to offer to give you their number, it almost tricks them into thinking they want to give it you. So it's a good one to use. When the situation doesn't allow for something as graceful and casual, just kamikaze it. "Can I have your number." with shaking hands, blushing cheeks, and finding it hard to hold eye contact, is a lot better than playing it over and over in your head about how you are going to ask.

Start an game of pick up ultimate, or organize a trip to somewhere cool. If your classmates are boring and not engaging, engage them.

Also they will associate whatever fun they have with you, which builds social value and attraction.

Walk around like you are somebody important (i.e., slowly, make your movements deliberate, shoulders relaxed and back, tall etc.). I've been making improvements to my body language, and I've noticed recently that random girls are smiling at me when I barely glance at them, as well as just being more aware of my presence in general. This should improve your initial reactions, which will make talking to people much easier.

Women are masters at picking up body language cues, and if their thin slice of you is 'that guy is important,' they are going to try to impress you.

I can't recall where I first saw this posted, but it may be of some help to you. Make sure that when you're having these little chats you are using several modalities: facing them, smiling, eye contact. Otherwise, it comes off creepy and stilted, like his questions to the girl sitting on the ground. And, of course, don't overdo it.
