This means that you're messing something up before she says this.

What that is, I couldn't say, because you haven't said a thing about the background of these events:

How did you ask her out? What did you say verbetim? What was her exact response?
How did you meet them? Who opened who? How long did it take for you to ask them out?

A friend introduced me to her I think two weeks back. She messaged me on Snapchat 4/5 days ago and after 4 days or so of texting etc I said, "I think you're cute and we should go on a date so either hell yeah or no" she replied with cute ,but I need to get to know you better first

Sounds like either it's a brushoff, or the girl has some issues with her own sexuality and thinks that 'date' means 'have sex at the end of it' and is trying (probably based on her own past behavior, which she regrets) to spend more time talking to guys who she knows she will be tempted to have sex with at the end of a 'date'. Basically, it sounds like she isn't very confident in her own screening ability and is therefore trying to put extra steps in the process. If you're really interested in pursuing this girl, maybe keep talking to her, and then in a week or two ask her to do something which doesn't sound like a stereotypical date, but offers a chance to hang out in person and build comfort/attraction. I think you just had the bad luck to use a word which is loaded for this particular girl.
