Yes you read that right I approached a girl for the first time in my life, and I'm 20yrs old. Yes it sounds kinda dumb but hey its better to be late than never. I failed but I have no regrets, I'll try again if I get a chance to. I need some suggestions from you guys I've spent enough of my life being socially awkward

I don't know what exactly approaching a girl means but, actually I tried to have a talk with her. She was a complete stranger. Here's the story: I was in a shared cab, I'm sitting in the front seat and there were 2 girls sitting on the back seat. One of em was gossiping about her life on her cell, another was listening to music on her cell. So I thought I should try to talk with the one listing to music I knew I would fail so I waited for the last 5 minutes of my ride, turned myself​ to face her and then:

Me: Hello, nice to meet you! She:(removes headphones, Looks at me like she didn't hear me) Me: Hi! She: Are my headphones loud? Me: No,No I just wanted to say you hi. I'm xyz, nice to meet you. She: I'm 'pqr'. Me: 'prq'? She: 'pqr' Me:Oh well nice to meet you!

The moment I said nice to meet you twice, I knew I screwed it, and even she didn't seem like interested to chat. So I turn myself back to my original position and feeling embarrassed I left the cab a bit early. Even the cab driver was looking at me, as if I was dumb(I don't care how he thinks but made me more embarrassed) When I left the cab I saw her and she was laughing as if she knew that was a failed attempt but she seemed happy. She was laughing about the failed attempt or maybe no one approaches her usually I don't know but please give some suggestions, books if they can help me.
