Dude, you're overthinking this. Approach EVERYBODY. Talk to that dude over there, talk to that girl, talk to that grandma. When you're first starting out, talking to everyone helps because then when you go approach the cute girl (which you should do anyway) it won't be a big deal, she's just another person you're talking to.
