I read somewhere that asking questions when trying to create attraction is "boring", and girls will just label you as some obviously boring guy who can;t spice up a conversation.

I was waiting for a train the other day, and 20 ish year old girl sat on the same bench as me. She looked cute, 7/10 in my eyes. I;m 24 btw.

So I thought "Fuck it, may as well open" I started with:

Me: Alright? (english greeting basically means hello)

Her: Yes thanks, are you?

Me: Good thanks

I look around the train station quickly.

Me: You;re a student aren't you?

Her: Yeah

Me: Let me guess, psychology.

Her: Yeah!

Then i ask some benign question about if they still study a certain topic i studied when I did psychology.

After that, I had no fucking idea how to take the conversation forward. She looked kind of nervous. I think I fucked up by seeming like a bog standard boring guy.

How do I keep girls interest in conversations, instead of resorting to boring questions?

I've just stared with this pick up stuff, so if my post comes off as a bit obsessive, I just want some specific advice to set me off on my way.
